I would think overtime shifts, MOL's, PTO's, Fatigue policies would start the ball rolling. I'm sure a plethora of local agreements, past state wage rises of 16% and 20%, increased staffing have helped.
The list can go on if you like.

What I should ask is how many times has HSU advised not to do something and you have still done it. eg 3C,morphine etc, single responses, responding to other cases when you are loaded.

What ever they HSU did or didn't do in the distant past wasn't the main issue, it was how they operate now that has pissed most Ambos off. This site has now become just a tool for bagging out EMSPA, and I assume most EMSPA members now avoid this site and concentrate on the much more worthwhile EMSPA site,that would explain why this site is now just full of the HSU faithfull (poor saps)and any worthwhile thought out blogs have all but disapeared.

This award is the Ambulance Industry Award 2010.
2. Commencement date
This award commences on 1 January 2010.
3. Definitions and interpretation
3.1 In this award, unless the contrary intention appears:
Act means the Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cth) Business includes trade, process, business or occupation and includes part of any such business employee has the meaning in the Act employer has the meaning in the Act enterprise award has the meaning in the Act NES means National Employment Standards
Redundancy occurs where an employer has made a definite decision that the employer no longer wishes the job the employee has been doing done by anyone and that decision leads to the termination of employment of the employee, except where this is due to the ordinary and customary turnover of labour.
Small employer means an employer who employs fewer than 15 employees.
Transmission includes transfer, conveyance, assignment or succession whether by agreement or by operation of law and transmitted has a corresponding meaning.
Week’s pay means the ordinary time rate of pay for the employee concerned. Provided that such rate shall exclude:
· overtime; · penalty rates; · disability allowances; · shift allowances; · special rates; · fares and travelling time allowances;

3.2 Where this award refers to a condition of employment provided for in the NES the reference is to the condition as defined in the NES.
4. Application
4.1 This industry award applies throughout Australia to employers engaged in or about or in connection with the Private Ambulance Industry in relation to employees to the exclusion of any other modern award. However this award does not apply to an employee excluded from award coverage by the Act.
4.2 For the purposes of this award, the Private Ambulance Industry includes those operations involved in providing medical response and transport of patients by ground, or air, or other in conjunction with treatment. This includes students, trainees, operational and supervisory employees as well as support services and administrative workers.
This includes: Ambulance dispatching Patient transfers Ambulance Rescue Services retrieval by air Wilderness retrieval
4.3 This Award shall apply to all persons employed in the Classifications listed in Schedule A to this Award.
4.4 This Award shall not bind an employer who is bound by any of the following awards in relation to an employee covered by any of the following awards:
(a) an enterprise award
(b) the health and medical services sector award,
(c) the aged care award, and
(d) the social and community sector award.

5. Access to the award
The employer must ensure that a copy of this award is accessible to all employees to whom it applies either on a noticeboard which is conveniently located at or near the workplace or through electronic means.

Most of the senior ambo's have gone country. Most of them have worked 20 years in Sydney and are burnt out and in need of a change. There is only so many times you can work in an area and be reminded of jobs you have done by the crosses and flowers on the side of the road. We don't need constant reminders of that. Yes the service is fucked. Is the ACT better who knows. I have known people to move there only to be back in less than 12 months but i have also known some to have stayed.

Last years 1.4% was offered in the Della Bosca Offer. This year is a new 1.4% just like next year will have a new 1.4% offer. You will only get it if you trade off like the other industries have, coppers, teachers, nurses.

Don't trade any fucking thing. We worked hard to get it so don't give it up for a lousy 1.4% but then again the HSU has already probably done a deal and we get no say even though I don't pay them. If you want to see what nurses /teachers etc gave up ask them. Teachers can be accessed by their web site (they did reduce sick leave from 22 days to 15), police are negotiating, their list of trade offs is on the HSU paramedic web site, nurses traded off last June, many nurses were pissed off at the time as it included sick leave, higher duties allowance. HSU are not a doing deal but allowing members to choose. They in fact recommend no trade offs and just accepting the 2.5%.
But of course emspa will have told you all this.

Before I left the HSU I rang them at least 5 times and asked to talk to Williamson. Eventually to my amazement I got onto him. I asked him to tell me where our money went, what the HSU did with it all. The line dropped out and when I rang back again he was in a meeting!...and I hear there are still honest hard working D&D paying ambo's (Williamson is on the board of that too you know) who continue to pay them $42 a month for nothing. I can't believe people can be so naive. I am not saying EMPSA will be the saviour of us all but if we don't at least give them our support and get the numbers up then we are stuck with the HSU forever and it is all our fault. In a couple of years time when the transferred officers award is gone, weekend and nightshift penalties are gone, call outs are gone, we have to buy our own uniforms, the FB are doing all the emergency work and we are their drivers, I don't want to hear one person whinge about it.

Oh how I would love to have a chat with you in person. In October of last year, I was given EXACTLY the same "run around" when I as a paying member asked to see a balance sheet detailing how the millions and millions of dollars they were recieving were spent.

I'm not sure I understand that last post.
Yes days are now 12hrs but night were 14. Therefore if you took sickies at night it cost more in hours than dayshifts. now they're equal. Previously Sydney only took 9hrs on day shift but every day you turned up you only got paid 9hrs but still worked 10. Either way you still get 114 hrs of which only about 72 are carried over every year. On your theory we should go to 8hr shifts because that would give us more sickies.

Well you better wake up and smell the roses if you think any union would walk away from a member who was in trouble for responsibly doing their job. I totally agree with some recent comments about officers and court action. Some time ago it frequently pissed me off that it seemed HSU would routinely defend every Officer - regardless of what they had commited. I even resigned my membership for some time over their defence of an officer accused of blatent assault. Glad my hard earned is no longer being wasted on those 'bad apples' - EMSPA can have them!
