Hi there, fellow ambo's.

How many times can we be shafted? Ripped off pay wise, ripped off workload wise, under-staffed, over-worked, treated like shit in general by management, not looked after by the State Government, not to mention a piss-weak union.

A few of us have put together this site to allow real ambos to have their say, unfiltered by bosses, governments or union reps. You can have your say, too, in the comments. ...I am an EMSPA member and I think it's long overdue. I reckon it's a great start that we have a voice where we can all come together and finally show a unified front. But I think it is you who needs to go back to the EMSPA site and if you're unsure of anything ASK someone there. In fact can you please give them a call and get oyour facts right. No one is taking shit to the IRC next month. If ANYONE thinks that the Service and Hopeless Spineless Useless are going to slip into the commission on 1st july for a new award you need your head read. Let's be a little realistic...oh...love the post from "management" saying they can't afford much after the 28% given to management! Tops. Leave the managers in the union where they are looked after, we all need to jump ship and get our shit together ready for next time...I reckon in about 2-4 years time.
Also Greg has apparently said the emspa site will be made available obn the intranet soon...I will believe it when i see it...

The NSW Ambulance Service has promised to review its triple-0 procedures after Braidwood children's author Jackie French expressed her outrage over an emergency call on Saturday that she claims took more than 20 minutes.
She said the call was delayed because the operator could not find Braidwood ambulance station.

NSW Ambulance Service southern division manager Denis Beavin admitted mistakes were made which delayed the response.

''The service is currently reviewing current procedures to ensure any shortfalls in response are dealt with immediately,'' he said. The statement is in contrast to earlier comments from the ambulance service that denied the writer's claims.

HSU Update - Ambulance Wages - Bulletin No 1
The first meeting between the HSU Ambulance Awards Committee and representatives from the Department of Health and Ambulance Service was completed today, 28 May 2009. The purpose of this meeting was to commence negotiations about your wage increase from 1 July 2009.

The current 2008 MOU between the HSU and the Ambulance Service about wages ends on 30 June and a new pay deal needs to be put in place.

At the meeting, the Department and Service representatives emphasised that they were constrained to undertake negotiations within the framework of the NSW Public Sector Wages Policy 2007.

In essence, this means the following:

A minimum wage increase from 1 July 2009 of 2.5% will be funded by Treasury - no strings attached.
Any increase above 2.5% has to be offset by the equivalent amount in savings achieved by changes (ie reduction) to employee related costs.
In other words, if a pay deal of 4% was offered, it would only be allowable by Treasury if reductions in employee associated costs funded the 1.5% component of the increase (ie the amount over and above the 2.5%) on an on-going basis.
The Wages Policy does not allow work value or productivity efficiencies by way of increased skills for example to be counted in this process.
This Wages Policy and negotiating parameters has been in place since 2007 and all public sector unions have had to negotiate in this environment. Some unions have sought the assistance of the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) to help get agreement (for example the PSA and Fire Brigade Union). In those proceedings the IRC recognised and accepted that government policy required offsets.

For example, the Police Association is currently also negotiating a new pay deal for their members for 1 July 2009. They have in recent times received their Police list of offsets to achieve pay increases above 2.5%. This reinforces the continued application of the Wages Policy in another emergency service.

The meeting today did not result in any offer being put to the HSU Committee or specific offsets that have been identified or sought by the Department and Service.

It was agreed that all parties would give further consideration to these bargaining parameters (along with their limitations) and would reconvene on 11 June 2009. It is anticipated that at that meeting a more formal or concrete offer (or at least key ingredients of it) may be available from the Department and Service.

This will accordingly be the subject of discussion with members and Sub-Branches.

you guys are right on. northern division is run by loudfoot. he and his low life managers have had numerous complaints made against them. 3 suicides in this area through mismanagement and harasment. Bernie Briggs was hounded by him and other managers and he eventually took his own life. they just wouldn't leave the poor bastard alone let alone help him.the cunts in education went along for the ride and helped screw him into the ground. Bernie was a level 4 with over 20 years service and they treated him like a dog. he had no support at all from that gutless little pommy prick and his vultures. what's the roach done, fuck all!signed his contract for another 5 years!!

back last year when central coast and sydney were offered $70 per pay, for the loss of meals by Della Bosca,they the delegates said NO.Well he offered 1.4% instead,well wheres that HSU?
that was supposed to be added to the 2.5% state employees recieved.
it should be back dated too.

Page 87 para 5.100 reads: (in relation to two paid crib breaks)

"The argument is strongly forming in our mind that it is time also not just for work value, but for professional rates claim. The time is drawing near surely for that if you think about the level of training. You think that a lot of people who go into the profession already have a previous qualification or degree, and if you think about the actual responsibility, it seems to me that the time is drawing near for that argument on the professional rates as well"

They will trade off our weekend and nightshift penalties. We still have a lot more to lose yet. Call outs are safe. They know they don't have the staff to stop call outs and the country folks will stand and be counted anyway not like us big bunch of pussies. Nobody in the country will get called out all night from home for nothing and if they try keeping them for 4 hours the fatigue levels will increase so much they will have nobody turning up for dayshift. Just print out some EMSPA forms at home and carry them in your bag at work. It is much easier to sign up members on the spot than have them say I must join and then do nothing about it. My mate has the forms on him and has signed up 6 people in the last week.

Do you remember on this site a couple of weeks ago,some HSU propergander puppet told everyone (anonymously of course) that QLD EMSPA had been kicked out of the QLD IRC and their submission signed by 1100 QLD Ambos was inadmissable.
Well just for any none EMSPA members on this site and so you know...that statement was completely BOGUS.
The QLD EMSPA have informed us that theFull Bench of the QLD IRC have officially accepted the 2 private submissions (Work Value Assessment & Pay Point Progression)that was completed by Ambulance Officers FOR Ambulance Officers.
They went on to say...Once again,Ffrench Commercial Lawyers have proven that all advice they give is well researched,factual, and built on years of proffessional experience in the industrial arena.etc etc
In SHORT if you're not an EMSPA Member yet,don't be put off by the lies and mis information OFTEN on this site. EMSPA NSW is growing in numbers,does have the ability to represent and protect you personally and their MEMBERS on a whole where industrial matters are concerned and in the IRC. Lastly EMSPA is only interested in looking after PARAMEDICS,not cleaners not Physios and not interested in running for Parliament..The choice is simple!!

Once again, Ffrench Commercial Lawyers have proven that all advice they give is well researched, factual, and built on years of professional experience in the industrial arena. In this particular instance, the individual Officers who compiled the submissions and subsequently presented them to the Commission have informed us that the advice from Ffrench Commercial was 100% correct and every step of the proceedings occurred in the exact manner in which they were advised it would.”
All this means is they handed in their submissions. Nobody got to argue against the QAS. This is like haveing a trial in court where your soliciter hands in a prepared statement and doesnt get to argue the point. QAS can argue against it and you have no counter arguement.

Fellow members, over the past number of weeks it is with some amazement I note the tension and animosity of many of you. As most members would be aware the Premier has placed strict stipulations on any future wage claims being placed before the Commission. In view of this circumstance it would appear that claims of greater than 2.5% invariably will or may be considered with some form of award entitlement and or condition trade off. The Hsu are currently reviewing a number of options, but the unequivocal facts are that the last award reflected an overall wage loss for many Officers and further trade off of meal entitlements along with increased shift hours across the Sydney and Central Coast areas. In view of these past events it would appear that we have been left no option but to review the structure of call outs across the Service as a method or leverage tool to obtain a greater than 2.5% increase when we face arbitration in the next few months, we were looking to offer some form of tradeoffs from the Sydney and Central Coast staff but they have nothing left. More soon.

Never in the history of industrial relations has a group of workers been worse off after being represented by their union at the IRC over a work value claim. What we lost paid for what management gained (28%). Everybody knows it. If HSU fucks with our callouts they will not only be faced with the mass resignations in Sydney but the bush as well.

The role of the Ambulance Service of NSW is to respond and care for people in medical emergencies. While the role of the Ambulance Service does not change, the demands placed on us are constantly changing.

Like ambulance services everywhere we are dealing with the impact of ageing populations, increasing emergency demand, rapid developments in information technology and medical treatments, as well as increasing community expectations. This means that we must constantly respond and adapt our organisation in order to continue to deliver appropriate ambulance care.

In the last decade we have made substantial changes within the Ambulance Service of NSW, especially in patient care and technology. Similar changes, and the challenges and questions that inevitably accompany them, will continue into the future.

We are rightly proud of the commitment of our staff and the quality of care we deliver. We must also support each other and allow every member of the Ambulance Service of NSW to take an active role in ensuring that changes we make meet the needs of our communities and help our organisation to develop. That is why we have set up the Service Improvement Program.

The Service Improvement Program will coordinate and provide information on the progress of our major strategic projects, all of which are aimed at improving the way Ambulance delivers services to patients, to the community and to staff.

Projects currently include changes to our business systems, clinical research and development, major infrastructure projects, management development and upgrades to our information technology systems.

The Service Improvement Program will provide opportunities for staff to contribute to these projects. For example the Service Improvement Office will provide staff with a direct link to the teams currently working on major initiatives such as the Ambulance Electronic Patient Record and the Healthy Workplace program. Workshops and an interactive electronic Bulletin Board will allow staff to contribute during the set up of major projects and to provide feedback as changes are implemented. Staff forums will also be used to test ideas and resolve project issues, and to encourage everyone to play a part.

Information about Service Improvement projects will be published on a regular basis mostly using the Ambulance intranet. While this will make it easier for everyone to keep up to date, it will require an active effort from us all to participate and contribute ideas and comments.

As a group of health professionals we have the knowledge and experience to find effective solutions to the challenges we face. As an organisation we have already worked together effectively to develop new clinical policies and practices. The input of staff members has been crucial in this process.

The Service Improvement Program will enable all staff to play a role in improving Ambulance and help us harness the considerable knowledge, experience and commitment we have to ensure that we will always provide excellence in care.

Good to see finally the svc has released a media announcment telling the public that on call officers use the ambulance for domestic duties (shopping etc) because they are on call in THEIR time. Fucking hooray about time. That should shut a few people up when we turn up at the local club for dinner in the ambulance. Good on you ASNSW. I have been rung 6 times today to do a call out on my day off. I didn't answer the phone. I also had one call asking me to work OT at another station. Country officers worried about call outs? I don't think so. To cut our call outs they would need to employ another 1000 people for the bush and having worked in both country and city let me tell you once you move to the bush you are married to the job. Nobody would do it for shit money.

So we are expected to make more trade offs if we want any more remuneration. What has happened to the extra money the service is generating now that we charge for non transports as well? I would think that the extra funds generated would more than cover an extra 15000 pa or so for each ambo.
Just about every other state is charging at least double or three times what ASNW charge to transport. SA have just put their fees up to $772 and Vic are well over $800. This corrupt labour mob seem to put up every other tax but for some reason won't touch these.
I would think that $500 for a transport is reasonable as it could afford us that pay increase plus go someway to fixing this budget black hole.

THE Ambulance Service of NSW has been accused of favouring a Labor-aligned union at the expense of a breakaway group that says it would be tougher on workers' rights and endemic bullying.

A leaked memo reveals management has been told to pull down information posters, remove membership forms and block the website and emails to and from the Emergency Medical Service Protection Association.

The association was formed three months ago by paramedics who felt they were not supported by the Health Services Union on issues of working conditions, wages, bullying and poor morale, and has grown to about 500 members.

It says it has no political affiliations and no hidden agenda and exists to provide legal advice and representation for officers on employment and welfare.

"We are at a loss to explain why the NSW Ambulance Service has blocked employees' access to a support organisation for their own staff, and we are currently obtaining legal advice on this matter," the association's president, Scott Clarke, said.

The Ambulance Service says it will not engage with the association because it is not a registered union, unlike the Health Services Union, the United Services Union and NSW Nurses Association, which represent various ambulance workers.

The general secretary of the Health Services Union, Michael Williamson, called the association a "sideshow that will not divert our energies from the main game of negotiating a new award for ambulance members - a process that EMSPA is not and cannot be part of".

The acting manager of industrial relations, Gail Gregory, denied the Ambulance Service was interfering with employees' choice to join an organisation.

An email to staff said: "It is not appropriate that staff and management resources be diverted to organisations yet to obtain registration."

The association's national vice-president, John Ruthven, said the organisation did not intend to be a union, and the move contravened the right to freedom of association.

"We are concerned that the Ambulance Service is enforcing unionism. The HSU like any other union is politically aligned to Labor and is therefore loathe to do anything for their members while Labor is in government," he said.

Industrial Representation and Engagement
EMSPA cannot exercise the same rights as registered industrial organisations. The only industrial organisations legitimately operating in Ambulance are the Health Services Union (HSU), the United Services Union (USU), the NSW Nurses’ Association (NSWNA) and the various Trades Group of unions.
It is the view of Ambulance and the Department of Health that consultation, negotiation, information sharing, assistance and engagement on employment related matters in Ambulance is only to occur with the relevant registered industrial organisations of employees.
Specific Issues
1. Correspondence
Any correspondence or emails received from EMSPA officials or representatives should be forwarded immediately and without responding to the Acting Manager Industrial Relations, who will manage Ambulance’s response. No requests for information or assistance are to be acted upon. Anyone purporting to act on behalf of EMSPA should be informed that Ambulance is only able to deal with industrial organisations that are properly registered.
2. Use of Notice Boards
The Awards applying to our employees provide that each ambulance station and workplace can have a Notice Board in a prominent position to enable Union representatives to post Union notices. Notice Boards are not to be used for the display or promulgation of EMSPA material, or any other material not sourced from registered Unions. Any material other than a Union material posted on notice boards should be removed immediately.
3. Distribution of EMSPA Material and Membership Application Forms
Ambulance has facilitated access for Union representatives to employees, including trainees, for the purpose of discussing Union activities and to disseminate Union material, including membership application forms. This has been a part of Ambulance’s commitment to foster harmonious industrial relations within Ambulance and will continue for registered industrial organisations.
It has been determined that EMSPA officials or representatives are not to be given access to employees, whether in training or otherwise, to discuss, advise, advertise or otherwise promulgate EMSPA membership information or material. This refusal of access includes any Ambulance premises, including vehicles, at any time. Any employee of Ambulance, purporting to represent or act for or on behalf of EMSPA, is similarly not to be given access to any Ambulance premises or property whilst purporting to be acting for or on behalf of EMSPA.
Any EMSPA promotional material left in any workplace or location, including Ambulance vehicles, should be removed.
4. Meetings of EMSPA members

5. Access to EMSPA Website and Email
Access to the EMSPA website, from Ambulance’s website and server and emails to/from EMSPA using the facilities operated by Ambulance has been blocked. This has been done because EMSPA is seeking to act for staff on industrial and employment matters. Parts of the EMSPA website contain material that is incomplete or inaccurate regarding Ambulance operations and encourages staff to use the website to report concerns that should be properly raised in the workplace. This may interfere with the proper management of day to day issues. Employees who have concerns should raise them with their manager at first instance or through the available reporting systems. These are outlined in SOP 2009-011 “Reporting Workplace Concerns”.

NSW Health communication systems and devices may only be used for:
• work use; and
• permissible personal use.
Work Use
NSW Health communication systems and devices are provided to staff for purposes related to the
work and business of NSW Health. They are available to permit staff to communicate with each
other, and with persons external to NSW Health, where there is a legitimate reason to

Permissible Personal Use

So what has EMSPA done? It has only been going for about 3 months but apparently they are already representing someone in court over a neg drive charge and they are currently taking action on 4 other matters relating to members. Why don't you contact the executive and find out from them though rather than making enquiries here.
Try getting the union to back you on any matters and you are left on your own.. HSU are more than happy to take your money and feed you alot of crap about what they are trying to get you, but at the end of the day results count. My dog could have got us a better award result than the last one HSU tried to negotiate for us (Great job dipsticks)We are all 5 to 6 hundred bucks a fortnight worse off!!
How come HSU have never done anything about the endemic culture of bullying and harassment by management also. People expect to be protected from this type of thing by their union. Why hasn't there been warnings and legal action taking against people like Rochford and Pritchard?
All HSU has done (apart from spending 100k on hookers and nights out)is weaken and disunify us.
