Thanks for all the comments! We're getting great feedback, and it's really nice to see I'm not the only one out there that feels like this. Don't be afraid to let others know about this site.

I've added a poll on the side asking what we should do about the HSU. Hopefully, it will give us an indication of whether we can get the 75% needed to change to the AEA (or whatever).

Keep up the comments!

Silver back. I like what i see in the poll. When can we start to look around for a new union ? Also, many ambo's don't know about the site ? How about everytime we are at work, send out a group email to other ambo's and pass it on to hospital staff, senior citizens etc!

I tried to start up with the AEA some 12 to 18mths ago but got hailed down by the HSU I had 70% of the ambos in the Murray and Riverina but when the HSU and management got hold of it they both made it difficuilt so hence it stopped I still have all the info on the AEA wages/ conditions the lot lets get rid of the HSU and into a union for ambos and ambos along

john, can we kick something off with the AEA again? you had 70% of the ambos in the murrey and riverina and this sight says 78% want the AEA surely the HSU cant stop us from doing what we want!!! we are sick of the hsu, their a fucking joke! how can they stop us from joining whatever union we want??? they cant just ignore us when theres a public vote on this sight that says 78% want the AEA and NO ONE wants the HSU!

I am sure most Sydney ambos would join a real union that represents ambos. We need a proper voice so that we can stop all the shit that management are putting on us. No wonder that morale is practically non existent when we have pricks like Pritchard doing anything he can to cut back our wages and what the hell is with these friggen x rosters. I have had enough of being shat on by these people!!!!

leave the union and all union payments should be but in a trust account. When we need something done hire some IR Lawyers that will be working for us and have no relationship with the Labour Party.

And they would have a better grasp of the law compared to the budget bottom of the barrell baristers the HSU employ

please tell me who the AEA are and have they got a proven track record cause when we do change we want the best representation we can get.

Hi All,

A meeting took place at Terrigal Station with 42 (hostile) members in attendence very quickly outcomes were as follows:

1.The Sub Branch requested that and URGENT State Delegates Meeting was to be held to review the wage claim with a view of finalising the claim (money component). That the Executive enquire also into why the : 25 years retirement and the payment of projected roster (on all forms of leave) had been ommited.
4.The Sub Branch felt that the CEO should be stood down as what appears to be standard procedure with all other staff until the investigation into the service is complete.
2. That there be a State wide video link up to allow ALL members the right to their opinion, the abilty that during this link up that a stop work meeting should occur.
3.Members were offered resignation forms and were advised that under HSU guidelines they had to give 13 weeks notice. This would be enough time for the HSU to expidite the claim.

Dear Real Ambo,
I would like to see more topic posts. This way we can add to topics instead of bundled into 1 group.

Examples of topics could be;

1/SHOULD WE BE UNDER THE HEALTH MINISTER?
This should provide some very good posts outlining the options, pros and cons, and which minister would take it up. I feel that health is the right way to go as it best represents the profession that we are. Some may disagree with me and prefer to be under the emergency service minister with other "000" agencies. This is a mistake, The police have their own police minister. This leaves only the NSWFB, RFS and SES. Who wants to be with that bunch....NOT ME.

2/ ARE WE PAID ENOUGH FOR BEING ROSTERED ON CALL?
In short no, $120 is not enough. We need to look at other ambulance services and industries.

3/ THE NEW UNIFORM
Need I say anything more?

4/THE CURRENT REVIEW

5/THE TYPE OF AMBULANCE VEHICLE WE DRIVE
This will provide unvetted feedback on the new type of Merc, VW and other cars we use. This would also include the positives and allow old farts like me to remeniss about the glory days in glory cars.

Keep it up REAL AMBO. I like the quirky way you write and embellish your topics, but would like you to group the topics better.

Can people please suport this by adding your post and tell Real Ambo that this would be helpful.

Signed, KENZADICK

Better grouping of topics would be easier to read esp when more and more ambos learn of this site and add more posts.

Being on rostered on call does not only mean no drinking that day/night (yes I am rostered on call day shifts as wll as nights) it effects my whole family. Example, I am on call and my wife wants to duck down to the shops she has to take all of the kids (3,6&9)with her "JUST IN CASE" I get a job.

You are right KENSADICK, a hundred and twenty odd dollars is not enough.

Another topic could be,
What do you think are the top 3 priorities that the ASNSW management should focus on and why?

Real Ambo said...

KENSADICK, we'll try and get a few more topic posts out over the next couple of days. (Unfortunately, wor's interfering at the moment.)

You need to realise, though, that we have no control over where people put their comments, and for now, most people are putting them in just the one topic. Hopefully, that'll change as we put up more topics! :-)

I like your suggested subjects... stay tuned

I agree, Ken is a dick!!!!

Anonymous said...

ther topics could include;
1.Stores.
2.Education
3.Should all ambos be called paramedics?

And could you please include a new vote on the front page?
Who will you vote for at the upcomming federal election?

I was an ambo in the 1980s and I am taking a keen interest in the union problems that you are experiencing now as I have a brother still in the service after 28 years and he is burnt out.

We had similar problems and at the time the Transport Workers Union offered to accept us as members and then to call a nation wide strike until our conditions improved.. ..unfortunately we didn't act on that offer of help and I guess you are all affected by that now.

Dont give up..do what is best for YOU not the service or the bloody labor party.

Good luck in the fight

John Treloar, mate its great to see you are one of the few who will leave your name on this site and not hide behind an "Anonymous" tag.

I have not forgotten you and how you helped me and a fellow officer stand up to management in Southern Division.

More Ambo's writing into this blog should put their name to comments if this is really a "unfiltered by bosses, the union or anyone!".

If this is such a forum for free speach why are so many hiding???

James, we don't want bosses knowing who we are because we don't trust them. They are in their jobs to save their own arses and they don't give a shit about us. It's that simple!!!!!!

If you have been around long enough, you will have heard some of the horrow stories about how little regard management has for their Officers. For being the most repsected profession, it is no way a a reflection of mangements efforts towards us that this is the case.

I used to think this was the best job in the world, until I started to hear stories about management and now I have no respect for them at all, or the Labor Party which supposedly prides itself on looking after people. They are pathetic creatures with their own agendas!!!! I love my job, and i love what I can do for people, but I hate mangement.

The hours can be long, the pay pathetic and my family don't see me much when I'm working. They have to put up with my bad moods when a shift has been tough, and don't understand what it is I really do. How do you explain what it's like to hold dead kids? How do you explain what it's like to be up to your elbows in someones blood? How do you explain to someone that their child has died? Does anyone really understand an Ambo's job apart from an Ambo? How many of you have been given counselling for jobs you have done? I've been in the job a long time, and never been offered it once. This Service is run by a bunch on clowns!!!

For those members of the public who are supporting us, a big thank you. We don't ask for sympathy but a fair go. We don't get it from government or our bosses. If you come into contact with an Ambo who appears burnt out or angry, pelase don't take it personally. We are just so sick and tired of being sick and tired! If you have been reading this blog for a while, you will know it is the case. Next time you meet one of us, just tell us that you have read tgis blog and you're with us. You may not understand exactly what we do, but rest assured we are not happy with what the government offers you and your family for pre hospital emergency care. Ambo's know of cases where people have died because of the lack of Ambulance services, and it all comes down t osaving money. If our bosses can't save money, they are gone! That is what the government and the boof heads in our management think you are worth. When they government tells you they are employing more Paramedics, we lose Paramedics from this job fasting than we can train them. What you read is propaganda from the governments PR machine. The facts are very different! If you knew as much as we do, you would be making lots of noise like we are here on this blog for the world to see. Many of us live and work in the same areas that our families do, and I'd hate to think they would not have access to an Ambulance because of some penny pinching pig who's worried about his contract being renewed because they saved the Service money.

I'd like to see Rochford climb out of his little hole in Rozelle, and do some decent time on a car. He worked on the Rescue truck at Parramatta a little while ago. No s to the Rescue boys and girls, but have he gots to work on a car Geg and see what we put up with. Why doesn't he do it more often? Because he doesn't give a shit. When we had those Road Shows, (remember those "I'm Greg Rochford and I'm here to help!" session?) where he and a bed buddy came to your station. Did he have a note pad in his hand? Not at the one I went to! Did any of the suggestions you made, make a difference or were followed up? Not at mine they didn't! I was simply answered with "That's a very good idea!" followed by a perceived wank wank next question please.

I'm very glad this blog is here, and I want the world to know about this pathetic HSU who take our money and do stuff all with apart from waste it and piss in our pockets. I'm appalled to read that Mr Williamson in high up in the NSW Labour Party, and we have a Labor member on the Central Coast who is also high up in the HSU. If ever there were questions about why the HSU is so piss poor, I think we now have our answer.

I have also heard that Mr Williamson is the brother in law of Mr Macgregor from NSW Health. Must make for interesting chats at family functions if this is true. Can someone confirm or deny this rumour? If it is true, I'm not sure I like the fact.

I'm all for another union to represent us!!!

Anonymous, can I let you know that there are lots of ambo's who have been forced to medically retire "sick and tired".
For families and wives, we are sick and tired too!!
I know that in my lowest hours when my ambo husband first became sick with Depression and PTSD, I turned to the HSU.
What a total waste of breath.
"Look we can't really help you yet, come back in 6 months!!!"
I wrote personally to Mr Williamson - I begged for help, for them to instigate change. The Labor party stooge didn't even have the guts to reply or to acknowledge my letter.
Let's not be blinded - Michael Williamson has one axe to grind - his own political future.
No Union Representative should be allowed to be in the executive - they should be forced like all politicians to divulge their conflicts of interest.
