There is no information about restructuring call-outs for the bush. Nothing at all. HSU is trying to keep everyone as happy as they can. They are badly wounded as it is at the moment and they don’t need anymore fuck-ups that will hurt them even more. Anyway the service wouldn’t be game. If HSU did let it happen and members lost out, especially without input from sub-branches, they would lose what support they have left.

I forgot to mention good to see Greg got a medal, well done. He should have got a medal as well for all the shit he has had to put up with from his uniformed managers who have tried to bring him down over the years. These managers have been working hard behind the scenes using ambos as the front but have failed time and time again. They have failed even with the assistance of HSU, that’s our union right? Sorry I forgot for a moment that uniformed management is in HSU with us.

Because it was in danger of breaking up!! The thing is designed to crash through waves at sea but it was in danger of breaking up on a beach. The people on board could have climbed down a rope ladder and onto the beach. The next day was fine. I say again, he approved bravery medals for the helicopter crew!! WTF! He also takes advice from managers who are liars and fabricators of information. They put their own spin on the information they send to Rochford to achieve the outcome they want. Obviously it is very difficult to work out what is wrong and what is right without Rochford and the PSCU gathering the actual facts themselves. However, I agree with you about suspending officers prior to the completion of a proper investigation, that is just plain wrong and should be stopped immediately. If the officers accused are not a danger to anyone they should be able to continue work until a proper investigation is complete.
The evidence of bullying, harassment and misinformation from some of the low-life managers we have is absolutely overwhelming in some areas. Rochford and PSCU are well aware who these people are and I expect they would be gathering evidence as we speak. Without decent information it is extremely difficult to just walk in and just sack these jerks on the spot.
Hodder was a case where Rochford and the PSCU relied on information from their subordinate managers. Most of the information PSCU and Rochford received was downplayed or misleading which unfortunately resulted in a suicide. Christine’s suicide has brought great shame to our wonderful service and should never happen again. I have heard through the grapevine that those who were involved with the initial investigation have been demoted, suspended or sacked. I have also heard the Hodder case is on it’s way to the Supreme Court where all should be reveled. Personally I believe the managers involved should be charged with manslaughter. It was as if they helped that poor women put the noose around her neck. She was vulnerable and weak and the managers involved knew that. They failed to help her. It was their responsibilty.
As for the medals for the Pasha Bulka thing. These would be presented to the officers involved based on a recommendation from the Divisional Manager. I don’t expect Rochford would be in a position to say no to the medals because again he expects advice from these managers to be sound.
There probably is a good argument though that Rochford and the PSCU haven’t been tough enough on the management bullies, harassers and imbeciles but in their defence they are extremely hard to get rid of. No doubt we still have problems with some of our administrative systems but ultimately these can be fixed. Replacing Rochford by someone who has no understanding of these issues won’t help us in the long run. Just my opinion.

I spoke to a HSU delegate recently who is a nice guy but VERY naive. He believed that having Williamsons ties to the ALP was infact advantageous for us!!! He is slowly coming around to the realisation that all his effort has been a waste of his time.
There is now a bigger than ever divide between the rank and file and management. I agree 100% that they have absolutely no place in the association. This is us versus them!!!
I am a delegate and i was at the last delegates meeting, i can tell you HSU has had only 17 officers resign. That includes officers who have resigned from the job.

These will include further information about the Ambulance Delegates Forum (see below); rosters (the 4x5 debate); the survey of members; the NSW Government response to the Garling Report (and how it will affect your future); the Death and Disability Award; and the National Council of Ambulance Unions.
This later initiative of the National Council may surprise members who may be unaware of the central role that HSU state branches (including NSW) have played in hosting and developing this vehicle to approach national issues affecting your profession. This is an important development and one that is expected to work with federal and state governments on issues as diverse as portability of skills, regulation/registration, and professional standards.
I would encourage you to visit your new Paramedic Portal, which is one of the first initiatives to be adopted arising from the Forum. You will know from my recent e-mail to you that an Ambulance Delegates Forum was to occur on 2 and 3 April 2009. That Forum took place with your Sub-Branch representatives in attendance. It was a frank and productive exchange of views and ideas over the two days. Issues discussed included:
7 Whats gone wrong - addressing the disconnect and better ways of communicating with members
7 Professional rates
7 NSW Government wages policy
7 Key member outcomes for 3, 12 and 36 months
7 The future clinical and operational landscape
The outcomes of the two days are currently being collated and organised into draft action statements and goals, along with relevant strategies/resources to be utilised. These will be the subject of final validation by Ambulance Delegates soon and will then be distributed to Sub-Branches and members for comment and endorsement.
I look forward to continuing our work together to further your profession.

We could argue for days on that one. Lets not, really too many Ambo's are quick to criticize, picturing the way they would have done something in "the perfect world". The truth is those Ambo's made a decision based on many, many contributing factors at the time. It seems like an overly laid back decision to me, but that's just the way "I" operate. Everyone has their reasons for their actions. What I will say is, that the training and experience of Ambo's in this service needs alot of work and effort from "the service".
