That is not being critical that is just stating a fact. I sometimes think I am beating my head against a brick wall trying to explain why we need to get out of the HSU. Then you have people like the person critical of EMPSA only having 220 members. You my friend are probably the reason we are in this mess and probably a manager and the reason why nobody above an SO can join. Well done to them for that. I can't think of a DO I would feed let alone trust to join me on the frontline. I know of one who just 2 years ago was an AO always in the shit and now he is one of their trusted DO mates. His day will come. 220 is a great number when you think that HSU used to have probably 10 times that much (not any more) and they still couldn't do anything worthwhile. Most just paid their money and hoped that they would support them when things turned sour. They may have had a lot of members but they were silent members. The 220 and there are more coming let me tell you are passionate about what they are trying to achieve. A HUGE difference. I have been accused of things I didn't do, I knew who did do what i was accused of but didn't put them in and went through the ringer (PSCU etc) with NO help from the HSU so don't think for one second that you can do your job say please and thank you not fuck up a protocol and not get dragged through the mud. In my case they plainly had the wrong person and I knew it but due to loyalty I took the bullet. I was able to prove in the end that I was innocent but it took me over 18 months and again NO help from HSU. I am convinced that EMPSA would not have let this drag on for longer than it took to prove I was innocent, about 1 week. Anybody who has been around this game long enough knows only too well that the HSU has taken more than call offs and late meals away over the years. There should be NO trade offs for a payrise. NONE. The only reason the svc and govt fuck with us is because they know we are a soft touch. We do care about our patients and we do worry what would happen if we walked off but lets face it we would only need to walk for 10 minutes before they would cave. We need a MASS MEETING just like Granville back in the 80's where we can take an overall vote on what to do. Everybody gets a say not some cloak and dagger meeting between so called representitives Invite the Roach and his cronies and tell them exactly what we are going to do and why and what date. No negotiation unless all c/offs l/m's and overtime is reinstated AND a wage rise is instigated forthwith. No HSU clowns (Williamson and his mates Tindale or numbers as he is known as, Baboon all trying to get their heads on the TV screen) none of that just do it but we will be walking on that date. Simple if we stick together. And yes lets stop bagging each other out. We are all in this together unless you are happy working for peanuts in which case go somewhere else with your anti ambo sentiment.

I post because I'm passionate about "real" Ambos not the aptly named "nitwits". I've admired "real" Ambos since I was a kid. Now I try my best to do my best. Why we keep getting the odd juvenile useless comments is beyond me. Why are there people that want to screw over Ambo's? Why do some "nitwits" think it's funny? All I want to do is my job, is that too much to ask? I work hard to do my best, even when deep inside I cant stand the person I'm treating - when I'm copping abuse from patients for no reason at all, I'm still polite and try to help. What did I do to deserve this? If any Ambo wants to stand together to build the Ambulance Service that the ASNSW should be, I will support them, no matter what. I hope you all would do the same.

At a VERY recent HSU meeting they were discussing how they have lost 250 members,in the last few months alone........where do you think those members are going? But to be fair they did pick up 100 NEW members, all Trainees of course..don't worry they will soon learn.

I ask the question. What "is" HSU doing? In the time I have been employed with ASNSW there has only been a decline in pay and workplace conditions, isn't that what a union is supposed to prevent? You have quality legal representation with EMSPA if that is what you are worried about. If not, you could easily find even better legal representation yourself (you would just have to pay for it yourself too). Just a thought anyway. Keep fighting for better conditions whatever way you can I say. If you are one of those people "sitting on the fence", could you honestly tell me why? Are you happy at the moment? If you are not happy and you are not fighting for better conditions... WHY? We need unity to improve conditions for all. The faster you realize this the faster it will happen. And it is happening.

Within a week of operation, EMSPA NSW Inc. received a number of complaints from members relating to ambulance management intimidating crews for taking their unpaid meal break off the station. The new Award handed down by the IRC on 12 September 2008, stated at Section 20B (a) “The existing one hour unpaid meal break provisions will continue to apply until new rosters are implemented”. Ambulance employees, particularly Station Managers & Team Leaders have received intimidating phone calls & emails from senior management suggesting that it is inappropriate to be taking this meal break off station. In effect, it is being suggested that employees should not be accessing an Award entitlement. Due to sustained high workloads, paramedics have been accessing this Award entitlement simply to ensure they have an adequate break during their shift. Furthermore, the EMSPA NSW were advised that the Operations Centre was collating information on individual employees and whether or not they were making themselves unavailable during their lunch hour. It had been suggested by management that Officers whose names were on the list, “may not be eligible for promotional positions”. The behaviour of Ambulance management is not only unlawful; it is disappointing particularly after the recent parliamentary enquiry into bullying and harassment in the Ambulance Service. In response to the enquiry, the Health Minister stated in a media release on 20 October 2008, “I do not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in any form”.
EMSPA NSW has sought legal advice on behalf of affected members and as a result, the Ambulance Service was contacted by Ffrench Commercial Lawyers on Monday 23rd March. In summary, our legal team have confirmed our position that per the Award our unpaid meal break is exactly that and employees
subject to this award provision are free to “do what they wish”. The Service has been put on notice that it is in breach of the ASNSW Code of Conduct by using such tactics to coerce employees into not accessing an Award entitlement.
Ffrench Commercial Lawyers have requested that the Service investigate this behaviour promptly in accordance with their responsibilities under the Code of Conduct.
It is interesting timing that on Friday 27th March, ASNSW attempted to expedite the introduction “new rosters” to remove the unpaid meal break, to take effect with only 7 days notice. It is clear that the Service’s view would be that this action would remove the unpaid meal break that currently exists and solve the problem of unfair and unlawful intimidation of staff who were accessing their Award entitlement to the break. As you will be aware this decision was overturned in the IRC yesterday afternoon. It is a pity that the Service have not been able to implement their new rosters, or even come up with a workable plan to implement them according to the timetable set down by the IRC. It is also disappointing that the Service removed ALL penalties associated with meal breaks as of 27 February despite a request for the “status quo” to remain in place that came from the Health Minister back in late September. This is also despite a statement from the Health Minister Mr Della Bosca on 19 February 2009, that new roster arrangements be “introduced sensibly and in consultation with our workforce”. It is the opinion of the EMSPA NSW Executive that a sensible approach would be for the status quo to be maintained until the full implementation of the new rosters. In such
a circumstance the current operational difficulties surrounding the unpaid meal break would simply not exist. If members choose to access their unpaid meal break and make themselves unavailable during their unpaid meal break, the EMSPA NSW Executive would like to remind members that you are deemed “off duty” and as such you must remember to secure your Ambulance vehicle and contents as such. We encourage any EMSPA NSW member continuing to experience intimidating behaviour from Ambulance management in relation to this situation, to contact the Senior RLO or any of the Executive committee. The Ambulance Service of New South Wales Code of Conduct provides a firm commitment to staff to eradicate this type of behaviour from our Service. EMSPA NSW will ensure that this commitment is adhered to for the protection of members.

TODAYS SYDNEY MORNING HERALD !!
THE federal Labor MP and former union boss Craig Thomson faces allegations that his union credit cards were used to pay for escort services and to withdraw more than $100,000 in cash, as well as bankroll his election campaign for the central coast seat of Dobell.
Documents provided to the Herald show that Health Services Union officials concluded last year that union credit cards issued to Mr Thomson - and other financial resources - were used for election campaign spending. These had not been disclosed under electoral law.
Mr Thomson, 44, was the union's national secretary from 2002 to 2007 and is chairman of the House of Representatives economics committee.
The union officials also concluded that Mr Thomson's union Commonwealth Bank credit card had been used to withdraw cash advances totalling $101,533 during his five years as national secretary.
And the documents suggest the Commonwealth Bank MasterCard in Mr Thomson's name was used to make payments to operators of a Sydney brothel and two escort services as well as numerous payments to restaurants and bars and for purchases of personal items.
The allegations are outlined in a letter written by the union's national secretary, Kathy Jackson, to the law firm Slater & Gordon in December asking it to hire forensic accountants to examine possible financial irregularities during Mr Thomson's period in office.
But Mr Thomson, who was an HSU official for nearly 20 years before securing preselection for Dobell, one of the Coalition-held marginal seats Labor targeted in the 2007 election, strenuously denied the allegations.

Would someone like to explain a little clearer what the people from Coffs have supposed to have done wrong? The answer given was a bit vague to me.
they are all folk that will not be members of emspa
The award states that a call out is deemed to start when you tasked to a case. EG: coord ring you and tell you that you have a case at xyz and ask where you would like to meet you partner.
The callout is deemed to finish when all duties relateing to the case are complete. That is when you clear the hospital you are assigned to station and you are complete the case.
The road crews (us) believe the case is complete when we clear the hospital. Some people take the sign off time to complete the call out when they press the on station button on the MDT. Others call on the air stating they are now complete and ready to sign off. Then co ord give you a time and you are signed off.
The Service try to say that the case is not complete until you are back at your place of residence. That can be 10 minutes later, and there is no rule that says you have to go home. The service also believe we should return to station, put the paper work in the station sign the book and restock.
We say to the dick heads in management that is fine, but during normal on shift times they should stop calling us at the hospital for other jobs as we have to complete all duties for the job we are currently on before we are available for another job.
Theses guys I would assume click the on station button and then probaly got a phone call (the service allows Mobile phones as your primary on call number) tasking them to another job. The argument will be over. Are the officers signed off when they press on station. or are they signed off when they get voice conformation from ops.
Either way on call is a pain in the butt. Yes the money is good but the disturbance is fucked. And if the service wants me to go back to the station to sign off then they can stick the Ambulance up there arse, as I will no longer take a car home, I will get the job and drive my own car to the station, see how there response times are then. This wont be against the award as, if I choose not to take a car home the only thing it states in the award is that I am not allowed to claim KM on my private car at tax time.
And the service thinks off station for an hour has been a hassle wait till the on call guys start jacking up. Then there will be some fucking head aches.

Yep I agree that if you have to be complete of all things to do with the job then that would be at the hospital. Bet that is not how they see it especially if the hospital is in another town but if that's the case and they get another job it should be a call out because otherwise they can't respond due to having to go back to their station to call off. I am glad I don't do on call. It is not worth the hassle. I bet they expect blood from a stone with it.

Can someone point me to a sops or whatever in regard to on call. I want to know what the service says about it as to where it starts and finishes etc and the taking home of a vehicle. I can't find anything in this new fucking layout they have now. Even sirens is too hard to follow for me. If I can legally tell them to shove taking their car home I will. I do on call and I have this argument with co-ord and the DO's all the time,I have even had the pay office refuse to pay a second call out because they were told (by co-ord) that I hadn't completed the duties associated with the first call out BUT I have NEVER had on-call taken or threatened to be taken away....some manager had it in for these guys in Coffs,unless there's more to this story than we're being told,they need to chase this up through EMSPA,and everyone get behind them..They are being bullied for sure!!

THE head of NSW Health has acknowledged that bullying and harassment in the ambulance service are such an issue that she has given an absolute assurance that significant changes will be made immediately to fix the problem.
The director-general of NSW Health, Debora Picone, told a parliamentary inquiry on the final day of hearings yesterday that she was "quite concerned about the level of psychological distress" expressed by officers.
The inquiry into the management and operations of the NSW Ambulance Service, which has focused on the issue of bullying and harassment, has been inundated with submissions of shocking allegations of abuse and violence. Officers had taken their own lives, it was told.
The public has been privy to only a small fraction of the evidence, because only a few officers spoke publicly - others feared retribution from the service.
The Herald understands that the committee had to make special arrangements so that officers did not cross paths with management when they arrived at Parliament to give evidence.
Professor Picone said she believed the bullying and harassment were "in pockets rather than widespread".
Asked by the chairwoman of the committee, Robyn Parker, MLC, if officers could expect "significant changes in the area of bullying and harassment", Professor Picone said: "I can give you that assurance, absolutely.
"My commitment to you is that … should you wish us to come back in 12 months' time, you will see changes."
The head of the NSW Ambulance Service, Greg Rochford, said he was deeply saddened by some of the evidence from officers. "I'm going to ensure that that situation is fixed," Mr Rochford said.

CALL OUTS: Well here we go the committee that had success in abolishing the meals for metro has come up with one proposal to restructure call outs. The proposal (one of) is that call outs will attract a single 4 hours pay (as it currently does) however you will be in effect the services for that four hours, you will be able to be responded to any case for no extra money in that 4 hour period. Should you get a call out at 2000 and receive another at 2350 you will exceed the 4 hour time frame but this will be an extension of the first one. So here we go again this time Country versus City I hope HSU does the right thing again and trades them off to even up the score.
PROQA: The time frame for proqa in regards to category 2 cases (2a b c) will be extended as from Thursday this week, this will have little effect and may benefit metro Officers, what it may mean that if you are stationed at Woolgoolga for example what would have generated a call out will now be done by say Coffs due to the extended time frame as a result call out will decrease in Woolgoolga due to the cases being covered by Coffs but may increase in Coffs. You get one call out a night you get a good pay. Any more than that and you pay it in tax. They keep me for 4 hours I return to station and wait there. If they think they are going to wake my family up for no extra money they better think again. When the 4 hours is up I will then go home and demand 8 hours rest before I start back again. No problem. Too easy. Plus I will leave the ambulance at the station and drive at the speed limit to get there before I respond. There response times will blow out more than they realise. For $1 an hour I think they get a good deal and I think they realise it.

I got yet another letter from the HSU asking for back payments even though I sent them a letter of resignation some months back. I rang them and actually got to speak to a lovely young lady who said she couldn't find my letter but that she would send me a resignation form in the mail which i got today. Sje asked me who I was with. When I said ambulance she chuckled and said 'oh another one eh'.

It is also certain, that a dedicated and motivated ambulance officer, who is looked after by their employer, will prolong many, many more lives.

The last poster is right EMPSA is where the action is. If you are a member of EMPSA make it your mission in life to recruit more members. Call at least one ambo a day and tell them about the new way ahead.
Probably the best way to sell it is just say that management above the rank of S/O are not allowed to join EMPSA. This is unlike the current corrupt and biased system we have at the moment where we have senior management in our union (HSU) with us.

I keep trying to remind people that Ambo's are not the kind of people who are focused on these types of issues. The kind of person who desires to become an Ambo, and remains an Ambo, is "people focused" and wants to help "people", complete strangers, often at the cost of their own quality of life. This is all they should have to be concerned with. Ambo's are generally very intelligent people, they just have no idea when it comes to bullshit politics. That is why they need managers to LOOK AFTER THEM. Something which ASNSW has ridiculously failed. Shame on you Roachford, shame on you Willis, and shame on you anyone who calls themselves a "Divisional Manager", because you forget, it is your personal responsibility to look after the guys and gals who turn up each and every day to look after someones mum, a war veteran, someones son, whomever, maybe even you. Hows this, was informed yesterday from an Ambo in Sydney East that stations such as Randwick will not allow EMPSA info packages or anything related to EMPSA on to the station premises. The staff have been told that Randwick is an HSU station and it will not support EMPSA under any cicumstances.
It was also stated that the ASNSW has no affiliation to EMPSA hence also the reason for the banning of EMPSA info.
Could somebody in the Syd East area be able to confirm this.

The comments from co-ord “sarcastic”?, from what I have seen that really is debatable but then again you would have to listen to the tapes carefully to be sure. I know lots of ambos who use all sorts of techniques to obtain important facts from patients who won’t give up information for whatever reason, particularly important information.
And this thing about the operators being focused on a street address. As I see it if they didn’t know where their patient’s location was is in the bush, and they couldn’t get that information, of course the name of the street that their patient used to get into the bush in the first place is going to be important.
And shouldn’t repeated 000 calls from the same caller be referred to whoever was in charge that day. My bet is the operators involved would have asked for advice from the co-ord supervisor that day but that information is being kept quiet to protect that manager.
It also seems someone might be trying to take the attention away from themselves. Who is responsible for insuring that the protocols co-ord uses reflect operational issues like this one. This is especially relevant to this case after a similar incident one year before. Maybe whoever is in charge of Co-ord overall? Is that you Peter?
Some even want to blame Rochford as usual but I’m sure he doesn’t write co-ord’s protocols nor does he write ours. Payne did us no favours with his well-publicised blame-game comments today.

General Comments
1. The HSU submits that the making of a modern award should not disadvantage workers.
2. The HSU submits that a modern award for Health should take the form of an industry hybrid modern award being made that will hav application to all health workers and health occupations. This approach was advanced by our union late in the pre‐drafting consultations for Stage 2.
3. The HSU opposes the making of a Nursing Occupational Modern Award and a Medical Practitioners Occupational Award.
4. The HSU submits that an award provision for Ambulance Services be included in a health industry hybrid award.
5. The HSU submits that the provision for an accrued day off for full time workers and standard rates of pay for Saturday and Sundy work should be part of a modern Health award. In addition the HSU submits that Sleepover provisions should not be included in any health modern award.

Disadvantaging workers
10. The HSU considers that provisions of the exposure drafts will, if implemented, disadvantage employees. We note that this is inconsistent with paragraph 2(c) of the Minister’s Award Modernisation Request. The HSU is opposed to removal of award provisions if that will disadvantage employees. Whilst transitional provisions may protect some employees, removal of award provisions may still disadvantage others. We are also conscious of the comments of the Full Bench that the number and type of transitional provisions are better dealt wth after consideration of the net impact on current terms and conditions flowing from each draft modern award [2008] AIRCFB 717 at [31]. The HSU will elaborate on its concerns at the consultation stage.
Health Industry Hybrid Modern Award
11. When this matter was before the Commission in Melbourne on 3 and 4 December 2008, Commissioner Smith raised for consideration whether the Commission might make a Health Industry Award with occupation based clssification streams. That model will be referred to herein as the “industry hybrid modern award”. The HSU submitted a supplementary submission (HSU Supplementary Submission, 14 January 2009) that proposed a move away from a number of industry awards and occupational awards, as proposed by a number of parties, to one industry hybrid award that would apply to all health workers and the health system. We submit that this is the approach that the Commission should adopt when making a Modern Award for Health.
12. The making of one health modern award along the lines of what we have proposed, will ensure that:
a. every worker knows the relativity of their classification compared to other classifications ;
b. classifications are not duplicated in multiple awards;
c. all health workers are covered by a modern award;
d. similar classifications are streamed;
e. employers and workers have just one document for all minimum wages and conditions for health workers regardless of where they wrk.
13. The industry hybrid award proposed, detailed a classification system that outlined seven occupational streams:
a. Support;
b. Care;
c. Technical;
d. Administration and Management;
e. Medical/Dental;
f. Health Professional;
g. Nursing.
Nursing Occupational Exposure Draft and Medical Practitioners Occupational Exposure Draft
14. The HSU submits that the “Nursing Assistant” in the Nursing Occupational Exposure Draft should be deleted. It would appear that this classification is similar to an entry level position in some hospitals and it is infrequently used. It is not a care role requiring the skills of a personal care worker (PCW), personal care assistant (PCA) or an assistant in nursing (AIN). We submit that this position should be removed from any health award, especially a nursing occupational award, on the basis that its application is limited.
15. The rates of pay for nursing assistants are significantly lower than a personal care position in the other Health exposure drafs. For example; an entry point for personal care workers would be as an Aged care employee – Level 3 ($630 a week) in the Aged Care Industry Exposure Draft and Support services employee – Level 3 ($630) in the Health Professionals and Support Services Industry and Occupational Exposure Draft compared to the Nursing assistant raes of $596.10 to $616.90. The keeping of this classification or an alternative such as an AIN, will see employers classifying workers to a cheaper classification rather than one in a different award that may be far more apropriate to the work being undertaken.
16. We advance similar arguments regarding the classification of student enrolled nurse.
17. We have previously submitted that the inclusion of an AIN, as well as a PCW/PCA, would create an unworkable situation because:
a. Those classes of workers are amongst the most numerous in the industry, and in particular, in the aged care sector of the industry;
b. There is no clear distinction between the roles. This fact is relevant in two ways:
i. First, the creation of two named roles covered by separate awards would be productive of argument and confusion about the precise clasification and coverage of a worker performing such tasks; and
ii. There is no imperative to deal with those workers in separate awards because there is no history of those workers having differnt award conditions, and no rationale based in their work for making such a distinction.
18. The HSU submits that nursing assistants, AINs, PCW and PCAs have similar entitlements that are distinctly different from nurses. For example, annual leave entitlements have always been more generous for nurses than their unregistered colleagues.
19. The HSU submits that if a nursing occupational award is to be made, then the classifications should be limited to Division 1 and 2 nurses and enrolled and registered nurses and midwifes.
20. The HSU submits that a Medical Practitioners Occupational Award should not be made. Medical Practitioners are one of the smallest professional groups within the Health Industry and as such should not be consideed for making an occupational award. Medical Practitioners should be included in a single health industry modern award or at the very least included in a health prfessionals industry and occupational modern award, alongside dentists and other health professionals. Profession specific conditions could be included within either a single health industry award or a health professional’s awardcovering medical practitioners.
Ambulance Services
21. It appears that Ambulance services have dropped off the list for Stage 2 and Stage 3.
22. The HSU has previously supported the making of a separate Ambulance Service Modern Award. Our position has changed as we believe that Ambulance Services should be included in a health industry hybrid modern award as roposed by us in our earlier submission of 14 January 2009. This will bring all health workers into the same award. Ambulance Services could be accommodated in their own stream in a single health industry award.
23. Whilst we see no reason why Ambulance services cannot be dealt with in Stage 2 under Health, if it is not, then we request that it be dealt with separately in Stage 3 and not in conjunction with police services, fire fighting or emergency services.
Accrued Days Off (ADO)
24. The HSU submits that an entitlement to accrued days off for full time workers should form part of the safety net for any modernhealth award. We propose that the ADO clause in the Aged Care Industry Exposure Draft become the standard ADO clause. This clause reads:
i. This clause will only apply to full‐time employees.
ii. Where an employee is entitled to ADO, in accordance with the arrangement of ordinary hours of work, as set out in the ordinary hours of work clause, ADOs will be taken within 12 months of the date on which the first full ADO accrued.
iii. Where an employee’s employment terminates for any reason, accumulated ADOs will be paid to the employee at ordinary rates.
iv. The taking of an employee’s ADO will be determined, by mutual agreement between the employee and the employer, having regard to the needs of the place of employment or sections thereof. Such ADO will, where practicable, be consecutive with the rostered days off provisions or in conjunction with a rostered break in the employee’s work cycle. ADOs will not be rostered on public holidays.
Standard Rates of Pay for Saturday and Sunday Work
25. The HSU submits ordinary hours undertaken on a Saturday attract a rate of time and a half and ordinary hours worked on a Sundayattract a rate of double time as opposed to those rates that are proposed in the health exposure drafts.
Sleep over
26. The HSU submits that Sleepovers are not a standard part of health operations. Sleepovers are more commonly utilised in the operations of disability, welfare or community services. We note that these industries are scheduled for Stage 4 and we contend that Sleepovers belong in Stage 4 not Stage 2 modern awrds.
Ceremonial Leave
27. The HSU submits that a modern award for the Health Industry should contain provision for ceremonial leave along the lines of:
“An employee who is legitimately required by Aboriginal tradition to be absent for Aboriginal ceremonial purposes shall be entited to up to ten working days unpaid leave in any one year, provided leave is granted with the employer’s authority.” [Health Services Union of Australia (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services) Award 2002.]
Higher Qualification Allowances
28. The HSU submits that higher qualification allowances should be maintained in a modern Health award. If the Full Bench is not of this view, then we submit that
higher qualification allowances should be maintained and not cease before 31 December 2014.
Tool Allowances
29. The HSU submits that all trades people, regardless of their trade, should be entitled to tool allowances. The Exposure drafts limit the payment of tool allowances to chefs and cooks. Traditional building trades workers in health would not be eligible to receive a tool allowance when they supplied and are reqired to use their own tools.
Superannuation
30. The HSU submits that if there is to be a nurses’ occupational award, clause 20.4 of the exposure draft should name Health Super Fund. Health Super Fund is a very large industry superannuation fund to which many nurses, particularly in Victoria, belong. The HSU understands that the Victorian Hospitals Industrial Association agrees that Health Super Fund should be named in any nrses’ award. Accordingly the inclusion of Health Super Fund is consistent with paragraph [29] of the Full Bench decision [2008] AIRCFB 717.

I think honest ambos have the ability to be more than just honest ambos. Ambos are street wise and very savvy so do not underestimate them. They just haven’t had an avenue to organise themselves properly to date. I believe everyone has become so accustomed to our union management relationship and heirachy that nobody questions it because it has been going on for so long. Management in our union? Are you guys crazy? The exact words I used when I joined the service many years ago. Management uses our union, as paying members themselves, to accommodate their own agendas and priorities, and the fact is they have the clout and they have the power and influence not us.
It would be a little naive to think that no one has ever complained about the way we get treated by the management/union bullies, “the old boys club”. The surveys, investigations and inquiries are all examples of our collective protests over the years. The thing is it is such a difficult circumstance to change. How can it be improper when it seems to have been acceptable to just about everyone including the IRC for so long?.
And seriously have a look at our sub-branches. They have no idea how to organise together, they vote against each other and are guided by some with their own agendas generally to further their own pathetic careers. Honestly most sub-branches couldn’t organise a fuck in a brothel with a fist full of fifties.
We need management out of our union and the opportunity to be represented by an organisation with our interests ONLY in mind. EMSPA has given us all that opportunity.
Take that opportunity or be condemned to re-live the past.

Today I spoke to a crew on the north that called off for code 20 and were given a time. They then said that they were off station for their break and were told by coord that they couldn't do this due to a new SOPS which did not allow both crews on a station to be unavailable at the same time.
This is unlawful!!!! I can assure you that EMSPA would haul the service over the coals for this.
I hope they do. See the Ops staff want to be part of us but then won't stand up to the bullies in charge when they are told to do this to the road crews. No balls. Too busy now trying to make sure nobody else dies out in the bush I suppose. Hell you don't even need to be in the bush. In Fairfield a bloke got stabbed and they wouldn't send the car that was 2 minutes away because they would have incurred a penalty. It is a joke. Bloody civilians.
