When one of the pt's presented to ED at concord the triage nurse requested a car already off loaded at concord to contact co-ord. Co-ord did not recieve a all from the fire brigade so dispatched cars to the fire. I think this occured during the week.

If what a previous anonymous person posted is true and the decision to abolish meal penalties goes ahead I believe they will get the same response from us; a united disgusted refusal to accept this fundamentally wrong deletion from the new (bullshit) award. Bottom line is we just want a decent hourly wage, and they failed to deliver us that.
One must consider the possible/probable games these decisions makers are playing i.e. By removing meal penalties the focus is now getting back what we have lost, the 'status quo', not what we deserved to gain; a pay rise.

I can remember the HSU feeling very pleased with themslves a few months back, before the wage-value case got to the IRC, that the service was not going to contend any of our claims/arguements for a pay increase. Well now we know why folks.
What this was really about, what took nearly 4 years of our trusting we were gonna get a pay increase was that the service would get all it asked for from the IRC, the managers would get the pay rise and the likes of the city and the Central Coast whould get a pay CUT. The IRC is a puppet of the state government, that much is clear.

Della-Bosca went for a ride along on the Central Coast and said he doesn't know what he can do for us.

I realise alot of ambo's are attached to this penalty and the increase they give us to our poor wage. But let's really think about it. It is not a guarantee every fortnight, depending on the station you work at of course but some days you're busy or successfully drag the chain and finish your shift on OT, some days you don't.
Why should we have to rely on this penalty at all?
Bottom line is we need an increase to our hourly wage. Not the insulting decision handed down by the IRC. Sure first year P1's and managers got an increase, but where to for everyone else who doesn't have management aspirations? It just demonstrates how 'Ambulance' does not value experience. They're aim is to make 'cookbook' ambo's who follow protocol and ask no questions and expect nothing; newbies out of school who have little life experience let alone work experience....who think 'gee whiz this job pays alright, better than that $300 a fortnight I was getting from centrelink'.
So what are we going to do about it? Everyone sure seemed riled up when they took away meal penalties, why are we not fighting for the one thing we have demanded for years...a decent payrise! Anything below an offer of 20% is insulting, not this bullshit, 2.5% here, 4% there....4% was an interim, a bloody 'show of faith' I don't know what you all thought but a show of faith of 4% signified to me that we could expect to be taken seriously, as professionals and rewarded for the important job we do; a wage increase of 20% did not seem out of the question...we should have expected and demanded it when this bullshit was handed down. The Thank a Paramedic Day (TAPD) is perfect for us. It will get shitloads of publicity, the government wants to be seen to be doing great things in the eyes of the public and they know the public hold us in high regard. So on November 20 we put on strike action and publicise that. I am not going to say walk off because I have been saying that for years and I know we are too weak to do that. Nobody thinks for a second that the government is holding TAPD because they think highly of us do they. It is purely a publicity stunt to feather their own nest. If they thought any of the things Eyes mentioned in the bullitin they would have fought for a decent wage and allowances in the IRC not stabbed us in the back like they did. I say re get together and REJECT TAPD totally, tell the government and public why we aren't getting involved in it and leave it to the suits to turn up and try and look good for the telly.

Thankyou for alovely week at Rozelle, had a ball mixing it with the outgoing rescue boys. The food was fantastic, facilities second to none. Mick Willis was great, he called in, gave us an inspirational pep talk and even offwered to sell us some slightly used trucks. We are coming back in six months to start our medical training and after 12 months he even suggested we would be covering the after hours call outs in the bush. What a guy, you really are lucky
Haven’t posted for a while, I have been in a period of transition. It seems a lot here still hate HSU with a passion and is it any wonder. It also appears many are frustrated because they are stuck with it’s dysfunctional corrupt bureaucracy and brown-nosing union delegates. Delegates who sacrafice their integrity and loyalty to us to achieve their own personal agendas(Generally to get into management themselves). Some even do it to make money at the expense of patient care and officer safety....I might talk about that another day.
However, after reading allot of posts I think more and more of us are starting to understand who really oversees our relationship with HSU………steers the ship so to speak.
As some of the more insightful ambos know Management is in HSU with us and have controlled our destiny for a long time. They reside much further up the political power structure in HSU than we do.

What an appalling review into the service, what a disgrace, what the hell are our uniformed managers doing?.
My heart really goes out to Greg Rochford and his Executive and all the thankless attempts he has made over the last 10 years to turn this service around after the “the brothers” had their grubby little hands on it.
As Rochford stated in a recent press release most of the 400 managers in this service were appointed with little or no managerial experience. Allot of them base their ideals/principles of effective management on the way it was taught the them in the old days; jobs for the boys, elitism, cronyism, and ostracizing or harassing those game enough to speak out about it or their disturbing behavior. (As detailed and exposed in the review)
Probably the most aggravating thing is the fact that these inept immoral managers are in HSU with us calling the shots. Yes boys and girls their in the same union as us and their running the show!!! (Remember they got the big pay rise not us).

If you have been if long enough you may remember why Rochford was appointed in the first place. At one stage we where losing a CEO on average once a year. I think that senior uniformed management even had the Ambulance Board sacked through their own, and HSU’s political connections. Rochford, to his credit, managed to sack or displace many of these senior uniformed managers who we all used to refer to once as “the brothers”.
The 2001 Performance Audit by the Auditor-General suggested that the Ambulance Service
should place a high priority on addressing issues relating to workplace culture and ethics especially for managers. Rochford ensured that this training did occurr but there was widespread hatred from uniformed management of Rochford for what he had done, especially when he is just a non-uniformed civilian.
Allot 0f the 400 managers in the service today were appointed with little or no management experience. Rochford has tried to change things through management and ethics training etc.
There is still resistance unfortunately because allot of these managers are just set in the old ways or still hold a grudge.

I hear what you’re saying but don't underestimate Rochford. The report has only been out a few days. He won't leave this service a loser he is too smart for that. My guess is he is hunkered down developing a plan as we speak.
If you are a manager especially a senior one in an area that has a pattern of bulling and harassment from management, or especially complaints about harassment that have not been properly dealt with by management (as detailed in the review). I would start scanning the paper right about now for another job.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all you HSU ambo's out there for all your support. That is for joining the HSU. (which is the Labor party anyway) and for me getting a post representing naive ambo's. Now I draw a decent wage (thanks guys) while I groom myself for a political career.
The ambo's pay the HSU $1.5 million per annum, and all I have to do is smooth things over with you, tell you we are doing all we can do, things are progressing nicely etc. etc. So I am learning allot thanks. I mean it pays the bills, plus I get known by senior politicians who tend to remember the favors I do them.

You overlooked to mention in your blog all the twaddle that most HSU clones spruk. Stand united, make a stand, united we stand, demand better than you’ve got, bung it on, we are the union etc, etc., etc. I have heard it all for years and years, what’s more it hasn’t worked, ambos have been given a raw deal for years. Look at the results of the wage case.
The problems we have, as identified in the review, were with us well before Rochford was on the scene. YOU NEED TO ASK YOURSELF WHY. Rochford has tried to change things but there is resistance for a variety of reasons. This is what MS Parker and the review team should have been looking for.
Labor Voter your apathy and indifference has turned a possible innovator into an in the box thinker. Open your mind . . . observe what’s going on around you. More importantly look what has happened in the past. Talk with ambos that have been in the job for a while who know.

Oh no here I go again, sorry Labour Voter (not), I just can’t help myself………Management don't belong in a Paramedic's union. They are management, and we are the labour. How can both parties be represented by the same union when management enforces rules, and punishment is dictated by them? Often times, Management are in direct contradiction with a Paramedic’s needs. Management and labour do not have the same interests in mind.
This is our problem, our only problem ladies and gents. The rest of our difficulties will be resolved once this issue is finally addressed.

They also want to council 5 unexplained sick days. As well as reducing the time we have off sick & on workers comp. They also want us to cop any drug/skill without any renumeration. The mighty HSU says we can try get money for that in the next visit to the IRC for a new award in 8 months (sound familiar, thought thats what this wage claim was about?!) The time has surely come to finally show these bastards what we want.. no more procrastination. They need to keep there grubby hands out of my already empty piggy bank!

This new offer is really something special. This was HSU at it’s best. They weren’t taking a stand on our behalf, they were finding something that would possibly pacify us and something that their mates in the labour state government would tolerate.
This offer allows two people to work together and earn different amounts of money...and HSU cry’s Stand United? There is no mention of P1 skill recognition or ongoing new responsibilities. The list goes on. Does HSU want a riot?
HSU has had sufficient opportunity to take decisive action a number of times but has instead decided to do nothing. One has to question why?. Is HSU accountable to us or the state labour government.
But what is most important is that management got their big payrise with the assistance of the HSU (that’s our union right?).

Make a formal complaint to the Union Ombudsman you have to be a financial union member. If everyone started to complain to the right people we might and yes i know it is a big might get somewhere.
So before resigning in numbers make the HSU uncomfortable first complain through the ombudsman and make it public talk to the media about how ineffective the HSU is how no one cares.
