That being the case, I sincerely wish your wife a speedy recovery and you and your family the strength during these testing times. You however are not the lone ranger here, many of our brothers and sisters have undergone serious family health problems over the years and a good deal of them caused by the stress of this job and having been let down by the HSU ! If you had read some of the earlier entries in this blog, you will gain documentry evidence of exactly how this happened (some very sad stories indeed).
But.. on a business note, please do not insult my intellegence by telling people here that if more people got there hands dirty then we would be able to change things !
One of the first lessons i learnt in business was that you should only go into battle if you know you can win. Regardless of your position on rescue we need solidarity now not back stabbing each other. Old crazy eyes Roachford is laughing tonight. We need to stop taking people out of hospitals tomorrow and stop doing sporting events too. Work to rule, one job at a time no clearing until we have finished and the country rescue boys and girls need to tell the service they are supporting their city officers and will also not be doing rescue from 8am in the morning. They are only protected until the service can arrange for VRA to take over their rsuce role too. Those people need to park their trucks in protest.

Mate there is no point in joining HSU and there never was!!!! They have stood by and let us all get shafted. If we had a real union we could have stood up to these bullies. What a disgrace. They are in bed with management and don't have any of your best interest at heart. The best thing that can happen with the rescue decision is that ambos will finally wake up and start some real industrial action. They would be up shit creek without us.
Yes it will be meals next week. No call offs, no late meals, take your crib break when and where we tell you. Hope you enjoy hospital food because that's what you will be eating. No more having a nice home made lunch sitting in the fridge and kicking back slipping off your boots for an hour. 12 hour days shifts to make up for the 2 less hours we will be working on night shift. 2 more hours on day shift is 2 less hours overtime. Less overtime, no meals, no money. A train driver earns $35 an hour and winds the window up when it rains. Looking good eh? Those 88 rescue bods will be absorbed into the shifts. They will make no difference. The only thing that will change is that when the service runs out of cars as they do and they have a 6 year old hit by a car and no ambulances available they won't be able to send a rescue truck to stand by now. Tomorrow is a black day in the ambulance service. Or should I say what is left of the ambulance service. What we have now people is a corporation. Corporations' only concern is how to save money. The state labor government is broke. It needs to trim. It starts with the people who will give them the least trouble and that is us. They know we would never walk off the job like teachers, train drivers, tanker drivers etc. We are sitting ducks. Always have been. Nothing any of us have done before now matters to them. Taken too many sickies lately? Certificate or not, genuine or not hpw did they treat you? They don't care about the decades of time and effort hundreds of ambo's have put into rescue and lets not forget the people who got it going, the Gary O'Callaghans of the world. They mean nothing to this strange group of people running this show. You don't like it you can leave. The absolute hide of Rochford to say today that he feels for the rescue officers. What a load of crap. He feels nothing. he is heartless. Read the submissions and weep. I am lucky. I have only a couple of years to retire. Every Monday I allow myself a smile. ALL of this fuckup is because a public servant called (Dick)Head couldn't be bothered to do his research properly, he actually BELIEVED NSWFB's VERY rubbery figures.

SO what do these bastions of public safety actually do? They pour water on a fire from a safe distance, you will never see them do REAL Firefighter stuff like the Brits and the Yanks (and the rest of the world) where they go INTO the burning building and push the fire back out into the street. No, not OUR heroes.
Consider also that WE are funding their expansion with every insurance premium we pay. We pay them to put out fires (preferably before the whole joint burns to the ground) NOT do rescue.

As i am referred to as Mr $21. I recently pulled out of the union due to their lack of action. I have been in a union all my working life and this is the most pathetic; wet sock union around. They fail to communicate with members their ideas and goals. They just take our money and give nothing back. Have been in this job for 5 years. The union came to give my class a speech in level 1 explaining how a payrise was just around the corner; as well as a fair system for rural placement/transfer. It is official that ICAC and The Ombudsman Dept. are investigating both the CEO and Operations Manager.
My office has spoken directley to the State Rescue Board and they are not happy with the CEO's underhanded tactics and personal agendas.
They are willingly passing on all documented meetings with said CEO to the investigating parties.

In the IRC yesterday it was confirmed that They told the State Rescue Board we would not be providing Metro Rescue services. THe CEO and GM said it was the SRB who withdrew our accreditation.
They were proven liars!

After all, ambo rescuers stand [ooops sorry - DID] stand by at jobs and gave treatment [which firies can't do at our level] and actively triaged cases.
Oh sorry, I am just a dumb overpaid coffee drinking ambo wanker who could never be the real boss 'cause a psych nurse is telling us what we can and not do at a clinical level.
Let's not forget that ASNSW will be PAYING the firies' training and equipment upgrades from their current budget at OVERTIME rates to cover our shortfall.
This money will come out of YOUR wage case brothers and sisters.
So all of you who think that its great to have ambo rescue out of the equation will now not see ambos as first responders to jobs collapses and the like - it will now be a FIRE TRUCK.
HSU should bearguing with cases attended and treatment given at scenes to justify and, infact bolster, ambo rescue numbers.

These cases will now justify the FIRIES to be trained by PARAMEDICAL SERVICES to full IC Paramedic level.
The supposed 80 ambo will be acrting talking vegies and not doing what they should be doing - rescuing and supporting their road operational brothers and sisters.
Don't forget that bug eyes Rochford doesn't even have a first aid certificate and tells us what is appropriate for our patients.

NSW's ambulance officers aren't ruling out "unprecedented" levels of industrial action, over a government decision to scrap the Ambulance Rescue wing.
The Fire Brigade will soon take over the majority of the rescue units, with 88 of the state's most highly trained paramedics being transferred to other sections of the service.
Michael Williamson from the Health Union says he will wait to see what the premier says in the next 24 hours, but has called on him to intervene.
“It’s unprecedented,” he said.
“So I guess, in terms of that, is there a possibility of the withdrawal of services in the form of a strike? Yes, there is.”
Earlier
Dozens of the state's finest paramedics will be out of a job on Thursday, with the Ambulance Rescue Service to be scrapped.
The move was touted after a review into emergency services but now means already stretched fire crews will now have to take on extra workloads, especially at car crashes.
Paramedic 'Bill' has told 2GB's Murray Wilton they were told of the news by SMS.
"It (the SMS) basically states as of Thursday morning at 8am Bankstown Rescue, Caringbah Rescue, St Ives Rescue, Point Blair Rescue, Parramatta Rescue, Camden, Woolongong and Newcastle will cease to operate."
He said the Ambulance Rescue Service was specifically trained and there won't be enough resources for the Fire Brigadec to cope if they are disbanded.
"We're all trained paramedics on the rescue truck."
"We're also vertically accredited so if you're trapped in a difficult situation, on a cliff or whatnot, we attend those scenes as well.
"We're also swift water accredited. We're the most highly trained rescue organisation in the state basically."
NSW Health Minister Reba Meagher said in a statement the action was intended to boost frontline Ambulance paramedics.
"The Ambulance Service of NSW is the only one in Australia which maintains a rescue function,” Ms Meagher said.
“In fact, even within NSW the majority of rescue services are already provided by the NSW Fire Brigade and other specialist rescue units.
"So it makes sense for our highly-trained ambulance paramedics to focus on providing the sort of emergency patient care the community expects.”
The decision is expected to trigger an explosion of industrial action, including paperwork bans and refusal to transfer patients between hospitals.
Shadow Health Minister Jillian Skinner says those who are left will not want to stay.
"They'd been contacted by their members, when this rumour first started, who were saying they were not going to stay if the Ambulance Rescue units were abandoned.
"So I worry that we'll have even more resignation from a service that is desperate, for lack of staff."
What would have happened if the 88 ambos would have elected to accept the offer and go to the firies?

It is ok pal not everyone can be a rescue officer. We know that. How many times did you try and fail? Quite a few by the sound of it. The rescue instructors always were good at keeping failures out. You were one of the frogs who were forced to take Intensive Care off your ambulance and then were insanely jealous when the new Hino's turned up with Pareamedic Rescue written on them. That really set you over the edge didn't it? You became a normal GD ambulance over night and it was the rescue boys who got to stay on station all day and only respon to all the cool jobs. We are to blame in a way for asking for assist loads from the FB thinking we are doing them a favour by getting them out especially retained who get paid by the hour but they have put them down as rescues and so their figures are inflated. After reading this blog since it's inception I now know why the Service I loved has turned into the disaster it is today.
Many of the older guys and girls have talked about the good old days. You troopies are still doing the same job but everything, EVERYTHING else has changed for the worse.
Once this Service had mateship, Ambos stood up for each other and for what they believed in. They fought for what was right, fair and just.
Yes there were 2 camps when he frogs started appearing. some for, some against.
But most came around and realised that it was a career path that, as Ambos, they could aspire to, to help their patients and better do the job they signed up to do AND get better pay.
Some didn't.
Once it was us against the world, fighting for pay and conditions, for recognition from wet behind the ears ED doctors (and a lot of older ones too) for our new skills. Likewise from nurses and others (remember we only got frogs because the NSWFB was going to do it in 1976(absolutely true)). And we fought resistance from bean counters who tried to save every cent they could on pay and equipment and also from some of our own.
From the comments on this blog I see a fractured, apathetic, sullen, vindictive and directionless mob. Where are the positive comments??
This blame game should be put squarely where it belongs, instead all I see here is sniping at each other or at each speciality.
You all wear the same suit, it doesn't matter if it has a different badge, or epaulette, it is the SAME suit. Some have more training than others. Most got there from sheer hard work, sadly some got there from sucking up to their superiors.
Many of you have higher skills but don't have the financial rewards that SHOULD go with it.
Some here have criticised older frogs who keep their allowance when they work in Ops or Education. When your back goes, or you are just too old to hit the road all day every day, you loose call offs, OT, late meals and weekend penalties. The allowance/s at least gives you some extra income.
All of you who stick it out will be in that situation one day so don't begrudge those that have it now. And for pity's sake don't knock it or it WON'T be there when YOU need it
As for Rescue, I have worked with all the services and have always found OUR guys to be the best....if you don't agree, tough.
It is NOT their fault that they don't stand in queues in ED all day like you do. It is also a career path that, if it goes, is no longer there for the rest of you.
The old adage "divide and conquer" is one you ALL should remember.
It is being used every day by management. If you are stupid enough to do it YOURSELVES, then you will NEVER get the pay and conditions you deserve, in addition your career paths will stop dead.
As for you 3C and P1 or whatever you are called, if you don't get paid for your new skills, then simply hand in the gear and work as a L3.
Unfortunately this won't ever happen, despite the benefits it would bring to your wallets.
As for strike action, in my day we pulled the pin on discharges and greater to lesser hospital transfers and always got what we wanted. YOU can too!! The disaster that is NSW Health would choke on itself in 4 hours.

We could sure take a leaf our of the Paramedic Fire fighters in the USA. They know how to stick together. A bucks' night reveller told police he had lost some of his manhood after a female stripper allegedly raped him with a sex toy.
The stripper has been committed to stand trial for rape.
The best man told police he felt violated when stripper Linda Naggs rode him like a horse and penetrated him with a dildo at the party in September last year, the Melbourne Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday.
"I feel that my manhood has dropped a bit," he told police in his statement.
A witness said the man was on all fours with his pants around his ankles when he told Naggs, who had the sex toy strapped around her waist, "don't put it in."
Naggs, 39, told police she did not believe there was penetration. But she said the man had thrust back, causing her to fall to the ground.
A fight then ensued between them, with onlookers having to separate them, witnesses said.
Naggs threw a punch but missed and allegedly threatened to call her bikie mates.
Naggs' minder Cheryl Buckley said the crowd was loud and aggressive and appeared to be "off their heads".
Ms Buckley said two people at the party on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula had offered her and Naggs speed and cocaine but they refused. Witnesses at the committal hearing denied seeing drugs at the party.
During the strip show, the men, many of whom were Greek-Australian, had been cheering and one yelled, "Greeks invented the ass", she said.
Ms Buckley said the first stripper warned Naggs as she entered the party the men were "nasty arrogant pigs".
The first stripper later told police the men called her a bitch and suggested a "gang bang".
Ms Buckley said the alleged victim was shouting and angry and wanted his money back.
Naggs appeared nervous, confused and angry, saying: "It didn't go in. It was an accident, I didn't mean it", a witness said.
Ms Buckley said Naggs was escorted to a bedroom by a number of men and the alleged victim punched her to the back of her head, leaving a cut.
He also threw a piece of blood-stained toilet paper at her, the court heard.
Ms Buckley said a man later snatched the money for the performance from her hands.
The alleged victim - described as conservative - told police he did not give Naggs permission to penetrate him with the toy.
"I know what she did was wrong and I am worried she may have done that to someone before," he said in his statement.
"I don't feel mentally well about it and I am disgusted that it happened."
Magistrate Elizabeth Lambden said there were some inconsistencies with testimonies from witnesses but ruled there was enough evidence for a jury to convict Naggs.
Naggs has pleaded not guilty to a count of rape and will stand trial in the County Court in July next year.

"NSW Govt defends ambo support

New South Wales Health Minister Reba Meagher has dismissed comments by the State Opposition that morale among ambulance officers is approaching rock bottom.
The NSW Opposition says a leaked survey by the Ambulance Service shows that 70 per cent of staff feel overworked while 80 per cent do not think the service deals effectively with stress.
But Ms Meagher says the State Government is supporting paramedics.
"Being an ambulance paramedic is stressful, but that's why we invest through training, through investment in our fleet," he said.
"That's why we've just increased ambulance salaries by 4 per cent, that's why we're giving favourable consideration to a work value claim and that's why we've just established a death and disability scheme for ambulance paramedics."

Re Rescue I was told the IRC said 'status quo' but that their status quo was they work in an ambulance hence the trucks are still locked up and off road.

I just read the administrative bulletin released about the IRC decision; nothing short of disgusting. A total of 8.5% pay rise, inclusive of the 4% we got last year; so really its a further 4.5%. Laughable, if it wasn't so offensive.
Let me just say I feel really bad for the metro ambo's. Gone are the meal penalties, the only monetary reward you guys could look forward to for being flogged and hypoglycaemic.
For me, a further insentive to stay in the bush a bit longer, then it's off to another service that pays a descent hourly wage when I get sick of the 24/7/365 on call out here.
I just hope that everyone sticks together and this is the trigger for some action. Things are not going to get better. We have to stick up for each other. But sadly I believe that this will not be the case and we'll only have ourselves to blame.

when you read it it says,
2.5% back in June,
4% last year,
the other 2% they are talking about is ,
12.50 uniform allow,
paid 30minx2 meal break,
11.30 for the mael away from station.I think that was it.
So thats the extra 2%,which equates to 8.5%.
Dont spend it all at once.
So we didnt get anythink for skills increase,or inflation,or because we are good fucken idiots that let the HSU roll us.

My sincere condolences to you ambo's out there, especially the Sydney guys. I have been reading your concerns for some time now along with the gross profanity (which incidentally does nothing for your cause).
It concerns me that there continues to be misguided anger toward two people who worked tirelessly against Greg Rochford and Mick Willis to preserve your existing conditions and get you a decent wage.
Don't direct your anger and disgust toward Dennis Ravlich and Bob Morgan, it is the organisation you work for that screwed you over.
You may think I am a HSU stooge, as some of you have put it, writing this up but I am just one of those horrible managers you also speak of who has just sat back on the sideline and watched this show unfold.
A 15.3% payrise for District Managers and Operations Managers, as they now put it, was quite generous and I for one agree that it is an insult to the majority of our workforce, the hard working ambo's out there, to only get the additional 4.5%. It really is absurd.
When you all really get to know the detail of what you have actually lost you will understand how ruthless this current Executive team are. Much of the new Award will change the face of the Service as we know it today. There are many disincentives to become a Paramedic Specialist and pursue a management career.
Whilst there have been some great "Anonymous" posts on this site, the only two that I can say that consistently speak the most sense are Rick Shepherd, who I know from the old Sydney days, and the real P.A.P. (who the hell are you mate?).
You really cant afford to wipe the HSU just at this moment. Sure, get the HSU delegates to explain why things turned out the way they did and let them know how disgusted you are at what your Service has done to you.
You probably will need to put aside a lot of pent up anger about what has happened over recent times, where the HSU on face value havent got you what you want, but you need to remember that you will need their full support to assist you in your campaign against Rochford and Willis and restore some sensibility in our organisation.
You should know that for some reason the Full Bench of the IRC sided with the Ambulance Service for most of the proceedings. A few people I know who attended the hearings could clearly see this. We don't know why except to say that Mick Willis did some wonderful performances putting his spin on things and telling many half truths.
He actually said on many occasions how good things are for ambos and that what the Service was seeking in these changes to your Award wont hurt you guys. In fact these changes will help Sydney staff not rely on terrible meal disturbances for pay and that they need to have two paid breaks in their now safer12 hour shifts. I dont need to make comment on the facts of this matter.
Anyway guys and girls it is up to you to find a way to collectively get togther and work out logically what you need to do to restore some pride and faith in your employment as ambulance officers (Paramedics)
To you Rescue guys - the fat lady has sung and it is over for you. I think that no matter what anyone thought of Rescue the way that Rochford and Willis has treated you is unforgivable. I have never read anything about crucifying a dedicated group of staff by giving 48 hours notice in any of my change management texts. Good luck in your adjustmets to this significant change in your careers.
As for the Operations Centre we wonder what is installed for you. At least you got the same 4% interim award whilst they sort out your seperate award. There seems to be a strong inference that there is a push to civillianise the centres? I guess time will tell but I for one hope there remains a strong element of uniformed officers in this work environment so that there is an understanding of what ambos go through and look after them. That is what I hope anyway.

And yes I am FULLY aware that the coast is suffering from a severe lack of staff and ahs been for years.

Yes HSU could have done it much better, but take Rescue as an example. Ambos taking out their resentment on their "cushy" job rather than blaming Management for not providing the staff necessary for the job.
It isn't and wasn't Rescue Officers fault, but how can HSU fight to retain Rescue if so many Ambos (at least on this blog)seem to hate it? What will the extra couple of crews do? Nothing except join you in the queue at cas.
Another career lost because HSU can't rely on it's own members to stick up for each other.
But whatever your feelings about the failures of HSU, it is the ONLY avenue open to you all for the time being.
This matter has to be fixed NOW, so you have to go with that you have got!
How many years do you think it would take to quit, find another union (or form your own) elect office bearers, get every Ambo to ALL actually AGREE on the issues and then put forward a case to overturn the current IRC decision?

What have those who have left the union done? Nothing, just saved their fees. What has it got them? Nothing except a few hundred extra dollars. It hasn't improved their base rate, hasn't got them better conditions, nothing.

Regrettably you have to save your staffing issues and all the rest till another time. Yes they SHOULD have been fixed years ago, but for the time being let it pass.

If the guys on the Coast are ready to walk, make sure that EVERYONE there will actually do it!
You can't bluff management, not any more, if you are going to take a walk then you will actually have to do it, they won't believe you till you do!

The life line to all of this is called "leadership."
Leadership is needed from both the HSU and the ASNSW, not just "change by edict" as is happening now.
In reality, the ASNSW is in VF. It needs a shock [leadership] to bring it back to soem form of functional reality.
It also needs what we in management parlance refer to as "followership."
This "followership" will not come about until both teh ASNSW AND the HSU leadership start to act like leaders and UNITE the organisation behind them towards a common cause.
Start talking and communicate where it is YOU want the ASNSW to go.
We need to;
1) "Unfeeze" the organisation,
2) Then to change it to what we want it to be, and then,
3) "Re-freeze" it to a workable and identifiable entity that carries with it the aspirations of its customers and staff.
No one wins in this current crisis of failure of leadership.

Have a look at both the detail in the Services email and the HSU, have a look at the time Willis's email came out.

The HSU Ambulance Officer B.Morgan pisses off to Tasmania at the climax of nearly 4 years work.
The HSU has sold you out.
Williamson has sad its NOT a bad deal.
The HSU will NOT be sanctioning any industrial action as it would be deemed illegal.
The only way you can walk is if every single one of you do it.
And we all know the answer to that.
And yet there is a call for you all to stay with the HSU.

It was the sydney members at the mass meeting who voted down the action last year. IF WE KEPT the bans on like the delegates wanted we would not be in this situation.
I have never once in my time fought for nothing less than the best for my members.
Even though alot of you dont know what you want. and then want someone like me to do the work for you.
I HAVE worked my arse off and I am a target for management.
And it would seem that many of you have no appreciation for all the hard work I and other delegates put in.

So to can the delegates that excepted the 4% interim payrise without consulting their members.
Williamson is one of the biggest offenders, I have personally heard him sell shit to the delegates and they bought it.
4% interim pay rise was one occassion.
I expect Roachford and Willis to Act the way they do.
I do not expect the HSU to act the way they do.
If you truly beleive you have worked hard for your members then they will know it and the respect of your sub branch members should be all you need to justify your efforts.
But do not FUCKING tell me all the Delegates have done right by their members.

HOW THEY’VE MADE IT LOOK BETTER THAN WHAT IT IS.

THE TABLE QUOTES OLD PAY RATES FROM 01/07/07
IT STATES THAT A 2/7 WAGE IS $947.40 (WHICH IT WAS AT THAT DATE, HOWEVER THE DAY PRIOR TO THE AWARD CHANGE IT WAS $985.30.
SO IN SIMPLE TERMS
ON THE 11/09/08 A/O 2/7 = $985.30
ON THE 12/09/08 A/O 2/7 = $1053.60
UNLIKE THE TABLE WHICH STATES 11.21% AND QUOTES OUT
OF DATE PAY RATES THE TRUTH IS THAT THE A/O 2/7
RECIVED A 6.93% PAY INCREASE IF YOU REMOVE THE STATE
WAGE CASES 2.5% (WHICH EVERYONE GOT AND SOME GOT
MORE) IT EQUATES TO 4.43%.

I can remeber sitting in on a tele conference last year,and the delegates were told 4% was a good offer,even though the week before the sub branchs agreed on 8%.You delegates took it,without going back to the sub branch.There were only 2 areas that didnt want it,,C,Coast,Illawarra.
I do blame the delegates for going back to the members about the 4%.
As for the hard working delegate,well mate,no one told you,you had to do it.
you may work your arse off,but we are sick of working our ears off listening to the verbal bullshit that comes out of the HSU!

It isn't rocket science. Ambulance is a government body. Williamson is a Goverment stooge being a member of the labor party who run the state who also run Ambulance. The IRC is run by the government. Did anybody ever really honestly believe we were in with a shot? The IRC judge only took Ambulance proposed award. He had no interest in listening to anything we proposed. Why???? Do you have to ask? It is all corrupt. They send out posters about reporting corruption. Who do we report the utter corruption going on here at the moment? We never had a chance. I am surprised we didn't lose more. Also who suddenyl decided we needed 300 more officers. That was just what was needed to remove rescue once and for all. Here ya go here's 88 straight up. At least Reba meagher has gone for good. She will be set up for life though and we lose money. Pick a date and tell Ambulance to bring in the army medics sta john or whatever and walk off....together.
