i think there needs to be set rosters - ie shift patterns - and then have shift allowance and penalties.

Yes reading them it is hard to believe how our service managers have treated some officers after all we put in it is a disgrace and they should all be accounted for.
I have always found Greg Rochford to be a good bloke same with Mick Willis but I prefered Mr Whinfield.

Suicide is not the answer to the tactics employed by the bullies in the Ambulance Service. Be honest to yourself and in your dealings. Always make your patient your No. 1 priority.Those of us who have been before you, sincerely appreciate your contribution and understand the games that some bastards play. In my own particular case and as the Superintendent of Education (now retired) I was deluded into thinking that as the staff elected representative to the Board, I might be able to make a difference to the lives of those men & women who had faith enough to put me there, but I soon realised that my existence in that capacity was simply a token gesture in an attempt to legitimise and give the illusion that fair play and democracy was alive and well. Hell, was I sadly mistaken. At my first Board meeting, I was handed a document re: a case history of the dismissal of the staff elected rep. to the Board for the N.S.W Fire Brigades. It was pointed out that he was sacked for divulging certain privileged information to the fire-fighters that had elected him which ultimately resulted in the embarrassment of Management and the Board of Fire Commissioners.
It was apparent that this document was a blatant threat to me in an attempt to gag me from communicating with members of the Ambulance Service in regards to the issues affecting the day-to-day running of the Ambulance Service. Issues that affected their lively-hood. Did I play their game ?? Not quite. But I was careful and managed to survive for a period of time. However I fell foul of the system in due course, where-in a Court of Law, I appeared as a witness to the inappropriate appointment of a certain person to the position of 'State Superintendent'. My evidence was heard which had condemned the Board for their conduct and they were made to look incompetent in their selection criteria. Regardless however, he was appointed and better men, more suitable and entitled to the position were overlooked.
At the very next Board meeting, I was taken to one side and advised by the then Chairman that he was very disappointed in me and that I would never ever be promoted to a position higher than currently held. Furthermore, I had failed as a Director on the Ambulance Board. In short, from then on, I was sent to Coventry.
Even some of my fellow Superintendents made life very difficult for me believing that I had failed them. Slowly my health deteriorated becoming more depressed at the ineptitude of Senior Management. If it wasn't for the loyalty of my own staff (mates) and some psychiatric counselling, I too might have contemplated suicide. However, I survived the crap with the support of my team, and that's the secret to weathering the storm (a good support team of mates behind you) otherwise life can be very lonely.
I guess the 'death knoll' came quicker than I expected when our newly appointed and incompetent 'State Superintendent' had me replaced by one of his equally incompetent 'Chief Superintendents', who's only claim to fame was counting beans.
At a staff meeting, he advised that he intended to replace the existing staff with highly trained teachers and that it was in our best interest to look further afield for employment else-where. Needless to say, the Union sat on their hands whilst we lamented over our futures. So after 31 years in the Service, 25 of which was in 'Education' I decided to toss in the towel. Do I regret the decision ?? Yes of course,
because I felt like the rat leaving the sinking ship. Nevertheless, my wife convinced me that it's a wise man who knows when to walk away from a fight. So reluctantly I abandoned the ship and slipped into oblivion, subsequently becoming 'old what's his name'. Ironically however, the bastards that had slipped the knife in were eventually dispensed with, when they, after an investigation, were escorted off the premises by
ICAC. I guess someone must have put their weights up...........Hmmmnn....I wonder who ?
As 'Forest Gump' said "shit happens". But wait there's more.....Earlier I said 'your patient is your No.1 priority, however, I must contradict myself. You must make YOU
yourself No1 priority. Of course your patient is important and is the main purpose of the Ambulance Service existing, however if you look after yourself healthwise, then your patients will ultimately benefit.
So to all those young men & women out there in today's Ambulance Service, my mates and I salute you. We all have our own story to tell but we're also good listeners. So if ever you find yourself at your wits end and need a shoulder to cry on, we're here.

has anyone had a read of the 2.5% payrise stuff from the HSU advising us to vote for it. If we vote 'yes' they will back pay our case currently before the IRC till 1.7.08 providing they & us all agree on what we're worth within 2 months. Think i'd prefer to risk the $240 and aim higher. Now the HSU is blaming the nurses union for there lack luster performance saying they can't negotiate because the nurses accepted there offer. We're fucked.

Being depressed or suicidal has nothing to do with bowing down to management. If you are a real ambo you should know that by now but yes i agree we don't stick together enough when it comes to standing up to management. Some people are so worried about getting into trouble that they give themselves ulcers and everyone around them the shits. well that would explain why the union says take the 2.5%; and if we agree with what nsw health offers us in the IRC case we will be lucky to be back paid till 1/7/8. thats only bout $300.. how lucky are we. What another mass meeting to discuss things? They have got to be kidding. I travelled a long way last time after having to swap shifts etc but no moreI have had enough. The delegates suggest we take the 2.5% and go into negotiation mode. I thought that was what we were doing for the past 4 years. 2.5% is not even inflation. Where is our allowance for 3 to P1. who the hell is voting against industrial action? Where are these meeting and voting sessions occuring? Why has the hsu not updated its front page since april?
There are lots of people on this site screaming for the unions head. Sure this is understandable and I too am by no means happy. The period of time we've all had to wait for a pay rise has really been stretched out. But for those of you out there who don't understand how things work, they unfortunately take a bloody long time.
There are currently 2 negotiations taking place
1) Wage Claim.....to recognize the extra skills, procedures and responsibilities acquired (P1). The final decision on this will be handed down when the commission sits for 1 week starting on 18 August.
We’ve already had an interim rise of 4%. This was supposedly a sign of good faith. When the final Wage Claim is announced at the commission in August, and we are given a further ??%, we will now be able to be back paid that ??% amount to the initial 4% date (possibly even further back). If the 4% was not accepted, we would not have been able to claim any back pay.
2) State Pay Rise Negotiations ....like the other state employees e.g. firies, nurses. The government has already stated that any state employee will only be given a 2.5% rise and anything above that will be cost off-set by trading of current award conditions.
Initially we were offered a rise, but this involved loss of current award conditions (late meals, call offs etc) to off-set the cost. As you can imagine the HSU was not happy with this as it would result in decreased earnings for staff. The State then came back with an offer of 2.5% with no loss of award conditions.
To make you aware of the situation out there, the nurses and firies have been offered their State Pay Rise with significant award changes to off-set the cost (e.g. firies to lose 1wk annual leave and other conditions)
The HSU is looking at accepting the initial 2.5% rise with no loss of award conditions.
Then, when the Wage Claim (skills) is finalized in August, they will push and take action for further increases to the State Pay Rise.
It would be bad publicity for us ambo’s if we strike now before the Wage Claim (skills) is handed down in August. It has taken along time and a lot of work to get to this stage, and the last thing we need now is to undo all that effort and stuff things up.
If we took industrial action and striked now, the media reports and the government would say something like..... Paramedics have already received a rise of 4% and negotiations are currently taking place to increase that offer, however ambo’s are now striking because they are STILL not happy.... Do you think the public would be sympathetic? NOT. They would be looking at us and saying those ungrateful bastartds get a pay rise, with more to come, and they’re still unhappy. It would make us look like ungrateful spoilt brats.
I hear people talking about having a TV campaign like the firies. If we did, and the HSU spent tens of thousands of dollars on a TV campaign to highlight our inadequate pay offer, do you think the public would care. Realistically how may people would bother lodging submissions?....I’m sure it would not be enough to make an impact. A lot of the public already think we earn good money, as approx. $70K is a hell of a lot more than what some people earn. Once the TV campaign had run its course, with no positive result, all us ambo’s would complain that the HSU spent all that $$ for nothing. It would all be a waste of time for us to go down that track……it might make some ambo’s feel better but with no positive end result.
Look I too am unhappy with all that’s been going on, but we have to let this current Wage Claim (skills) fight run its course. We would be our own worst enemy if we were to disrupt proceedings now. We would run the risk of the present claim being negatively affected. We really do need to be patient. Once the Wage Claim (skills) is finalised in August, let’s let it rip and take some serious strike action and really upset things.
Until then, attend the rally on the 22nd July and be heard, the more people the better. I hope lots of people attend, unlike the usual situation where everybody is happy to whine to each other but can’t be bothered to stand up and do something about it. Let’s stick together and be counted as ONE.

All that was seen as old was also seen as unworthy and incomptetant.

If you didn't come from a Health background and weer a sworn officer, then somehow you were seen as a dickhead.
Well, huess what? Health has enough of its own dick heads.
Believe me, the PSCU has done a necessary job. But it has been an inept and unaccountable department which has gone overboard.
It has lost the plot and is now merely a tool that covers up ineptness and not reports it.

Sanctioned HSU bans [or work limitations] are effective across all sub-branches. This includes the Sperintendents' Sub-Branch as AND hosoital staff not in the ASNSW well.
To attempt to coerce or to bring pressure to bare on another union member who is complying with a work ban is in fact against the HSU's own by-laws and that of the ACTU.
Unity and solidarity are the issue(s) here.
If you feel that you are being coerced by another HSU member to disregard a union sanctioned work ban, regardless of the sub-branch that they belong to, then simply ask them this question:
"Are you making me go against a HSU sanctioned work practice?
"Then, if your directing me to do so, I will be naming and complaining about you to the HSU and your sub-branch executive."
See how long this practice of "brow beating" HSU staff lasts.
Be cautious, you must comply with an official and lawful directive from your supervisor. You could be sacked and have little to stand on in the IRC.

It was the old fibreglass stretcher that fitted into the top of the main sidebox (squad bench for the yanks, or where we sat to treat or sat the day treatment walkers),, you took out the matress when you had a bloody corpse so the blood stayed in the tray of the stretcher and not all over the bloody floor....long before body bags
version 2. Was a cutout or depressed section of the floor in the back under the stretcher of some vehicles to collect fluids and stop them from tracking under the stretcher rails or into the bottom of the cabinets where they were bolted down and would stink...not to mention being a great source of infection to us wallies who had to clean them. all the new trucks have flooring that can be moulded and curved so the problem should no longer exist

Of those who complain that more staff will mean lost wages how much do you think you will lose when they remove the late meals and call offs .....$10-15K maybe...the only thing that will save your wages is more staff to prop up the current roster formats...10/14...wake up and think. Dont let the Service change the roster and the current conditions of the award. Once gone forever gone. Just ask any country ambo about the 1988 saga when they lost a shit load of conditions because we didnt stick together.

Did you know that at the ripe old age of 59 that he has become a GREAT grandfather?
I never had a problem with him personally and he was always great to work with.
He took pride in his uniform and showed great compassion.
You say that I bullied many junior staff in my career. Well, some may see it that way, many others wouldn't.
Take Bill for instance and the many others who failed the entry primer into the paramedic course.
I helped him and many others by having them work on the IC car with me and my peers.
I ran [together with other paramedics] classes for ambos to pass this course.
Many an ambo asked me for advice on handing in applications and others were in my own lounge room just venting off their personal or work issues.
My wife and I have loaned money and welcomed some ambos into our own home that had nowhere to live.
I am not all that good but I am not all that bad either.
Bill was, and still is a great confident of mine and many others.

Dear HSU,
This break-up letter should come as no surprise nor cause any heartache to someone as cold hearted as you. Time and again I've tried to get you to show me how much you care. Time and again I've been rudely rebuffed.
I have emotions. I have needs. I have love to express. But, Mr. Selfish, you just don't care that you make me feel like my needs, emotions, and pay and disability benefits are just not important. Well news flash, HSU, they are! So, after years I'm ending this charade of a relationship in hopes of finding someone who is emotionally mature enough to take care of me like I need to be.
Don't come crawling back on your hands and knees asking me to get lubed up and on mine, because I don't have to put up with that from you or anyone.
You see, to me and people who aren't dead inside like you, our pay demands and death & disability benefits are reasonable requests. They let me know that I am special and very important to you. The ironic things is how you always talked of taking our relationship to the next level, but you're just a Union of words, not actions. You gave me lip service and I wanted my needs serviced. I mean, what's more intimate and meaningful than sweet beautiful cash? You can keep your vows and veils and rings and ceremonies. I want something that actually means something. A pay rise is infinitely more meaningful than a trip down the aisle. It says that what we have is something special, something so important to both of us that it can only be expressed by actions.
But no... you say its dirty. It's wrong. It goes against the god-almighty government. Well boo-fucking-hoo. To us in the real world with hearts that function, that's called love. You don't have to sugar coat it, I know how you really feel about me. Its obvious that you're just hiding behind those absurd reasons because I am not the one for you. I truly hope you find some other poor deluded fools that you can bend over, jelly up, and screw over completely.
But it ain't gonna be me. Sadly, my love, I've got better things to do than being screwed over again and again.
