The fuckwit 5 minute wonder who said why don't you just apply for a level 5 course has no fucking idea. He or she is obviously living in a one inch square. There are some stations that DO NOT ALLOW the staff to apply for level 5. You may not have heard of them but they are country stations. Here in the bush we can only apply for level 5 if the course is offered at the station you work at and as for the smaller stations if there is already a level 5 there then you cannot do level 5 unless you are level 4 and do the fucking upgrade. That my fucking pea brained friend is why some people want to do a L4/5 upgrade. Now can someone tell me what happened at Coffs?

The Coffsd Hrabour Brothers and Sisters were on the grass to complain about lack of proper rostering in Coffs and their surrounding branches.
They held signs on the highway and were widely applauded by the public.
HSU gave a very summation of the reasons for the walk out;
"We're not asking for money or extra staff, we just want a roster system that is operationally sound. Why don't management talk to us?"
Noticeably, management were not available for interview.

As for IC upgrade, MOST ambos aren't simply good enough to work on their own as a frog without being mentored by a more
experienced one. Me included!
It's simple, go to an identified IC Centre Of Learning Excellence, have a good yarn to the frogs there and really see what its all about.

Not bad for a lowly level 3 with no allowances or any chance of ever getting any unless I leave here and why would I. Be a level 5 and drop half my pay. No thanks. And Nowhere was i whinging. Yeah the shifts are shit but at least when the phone rings I don't have to wake up some dickhead I don't like working with. I just go chink chink thanks for coming. My name is George. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Sue.
When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Sue to get a full-time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed.
Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age.
I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner.
I don't yell at her, instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table.
I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club so eating out is not an option. I'm ready for some home-cooked tucker when I hit that door.
She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.
I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves.
I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.
Another symptom of ageing is complaining. For example she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement.
I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.
When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the lawn.
I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice big cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.
I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Marylyn. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible!
Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your ageing wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it as well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

Re: Ambo on 142K a year.
Including on-call, I reckon that’s about 106 hours a week that your available to the service to respond. That's if you work a 2,3or possibly 4 man roster.
So if your making $25.00 an hour for an 8 hour day but actually available for a further 16 hours of that day on-call, your really earning around $8.33 an hour.

Probably the most appalling part of this equation is the reality that ambos at the majority of smaller stations have little or no opportunities to develop to the higher clinical levels. How many really good P1 officers do you know with 10, 15 or more experience. I know heaps.
These officers have been left to rot in the country by those nitwits in education and professional development. Sure they mail allot of stuff out to them nowadays in the way of skills and drugs which just pisses them off more and more.
Also what is starting to happen now is all of the 3 min wonder frogs trained up in Sydney over the last 5 years are starting to move to the country further taking away any chance for these officers to progress at their own station.

I am happy to be a Level 3.If you want to be a level 5 good for you. When the original level 5 guys started they had my respect. They did it because they wanted to improve things for their patient not because they thought wearing a pretty badge would make them better then everyone else. Nowadays I look around and see the calibre of the level 5's and I just smile to myself. Oh yeah I am the guy taking home the 140k plus each year by the way. I am not burned out, never ran an ambulance into a tree or had any form of nervous disorder. I also get to spend a lot of time with my famliy. Remember I don't have to go to work for 14 hours every night and spend it with people I don't like. I get to stay home with my family every night.It can be done. Yes they may be paying me $8 an hour when it is all said and done but I am still better off than most. I know that and appreicate it. It is possible to have a long enjoyable career and make a good living, live in a beautiful place away from the rat race. I have been there done that. Worked the Cabramatta area at the height of the heroin days, worked in the heart of Sydney, been a rescue officer and all that entails (the job is easy the recerts another thing) now I just slide into work each day in the company car. they pay for the fuel and then they pay me when I have to use it. It is not about my badge is bigger than yours, it is about inner happiness and patient care. remember that?

Too many times I have seen good people fall to illness through over work.
Anecdotal evidence indicates that a significant portion of our staff actually go to work carrying illness es and injuries simply because they can't afford to live on long term sick/compo paymentgs.
Overtime should be banned. Shift work is known to have a detramental affect on our body clocks.
The cumulative affects of such work creeps up on you.
We should stick to our 38 hour Award week.
Remember in an of my earlier blogs that one of Viosions was to have no ambo work any overtime?

'Overworked' ambos leaving in droves: survey

The New South Wales Opposition says a leaked document shows ambulance drivers are stressed and overworked.
The Ambulance Service survey has found 70 per cent of staff feel overworked, while 80 per cent do not think the service deals effectively with stress.
NSW Opposition health spokeswoman Jillian Skinner says figures also show the number of ambulance officers who have resigned has doubled in the past six years.
Ms Skinner says low morale is the reason ambulance officers are leaving the service in droves.
"Many of them feel they are very unfairly treated," she said.
"For example, they're blamed for delays in responding to other urgent calls because they are stuck outside hospital emergency departments because they can't off-load their patients because there aren't enough hospital beds to take those patients that need to be admitted."
She says the level of dissatisfaction is similar to a survey done in 2002, meaning the Ambulance Service is failing to address the concerns of its staff.
"This survey confirms what many ambulance officers are telling me when they contact me - they are stressed, they feel overworked, they feel undervalued," she said.
"The revelation that fewer of them participated in this survey than they did in years past tells us that they don't think the Government listens and they certainly don't act on their concerns."

There has been some talk about changing unions, can that be done? Can anyone shed some light on that? I think it's time we were in a union that represents emergency service people not cleaners, radiographers and such like. I can't believe my sub branch voted to accept that bullshit 4%. I didn't want that and i'm sure the majority of us didn't, how can they do that shit? Can we get together and tell our sub-branch to get that cancelled? I believe we should be taking strong industrial action now and not waiting. Nurses, Cops,got their pay rises what wrong with us? How about the media campaign for the nurses! TV ads all the time. On the radio, now look at our piss-weak unions efforts, Stickers and other crap! I'm sick of being the nice guy and copping it sweet. Lets get together fellow ambo's and get what we deserve. The most trusted profession and the most ripped off! We deserve to be paid a professional wage. Don't sell yourselves short. Time to get tough and be a solid strong unit!

NSW Govt defends ambo support

New South Wales Health Minister Reba Meagher has dismissed comments by the State Opposition that morale among ambulance officers is approaching rock bottom.
The NSW Opposition says a leaked survey by the Ambulance Service shows that 70 per cent of staff feel overworked while 80 per cent do not think the service deals effectively with stress.
But Ms Meagher says the State Government is supporting paramedics.
"Being an ambulance paramedic is stressful, but that's why we invest through training, through investment in our fleet," he said.
"That's why we've just increased ambulance salaries by 4 per cent, that's why we're giving favourable consideration to a work value claim and that's why we've just established a death and disability scheme for ambulance paramedics."

Same as HSU’s submission to the current inquiry into the service. It stated that front line ambos where angry that the CEO was not a uniformed officer. I get to visit a number of stations and I have never heard this brought up as a topic of conversation ANYWHERE. Ambos just want a fair wage and a defined career path. Most don’t give a rat’s arse what the CEO wears.

The latest I’ve heard is that HSU is now pushing for 20% over 4 years or 5% a year for 4 years. CPI is running around 3% a year at present and set to continue, also take into account that the new D&D will cost most of us 1.8% of our wage a year and your not left with much after 4 years.

Just heard this afternoon that the Sydney intensive care rapid responders have been given a new piece of equipment called the zoll life band.(basically it does compressions if your on a case on your own).Apparently the New South Wales Wambulance Service has bought 10 or 12 of these things at around 22K each. What a waist of money in an area that has so many officers .It could have been better spent providing more staff to station in rural location who work single .This Service Is a Fucking Joke!

What ever the IRC hands down in may is non-negotiable, the union is legally obliged to except.

Their style of writing is exactly the same. You two should hook up together if you are two different people but I doubt it. It has been very quiet here. I was very shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of retired Super Eric Marks. A larger than life character that's for sure not a lot of people probably had much to do with him and that was a good thing. It was usually him that you had to see when you got in the shit but I was lucky enough to have had a very close working relationship with him in the early 80's when he was in charge of the control room. Being a controller meant something then (not like the dispatchers of today, I would never call them controllers) and it was he who allowed me to train long before my 3 years were up on the road. He was a boss who called a spade a fucking shovel and after you had spoken to him you knew exactly where you stood. He would also go into bat for you if he thought you deserved it not like today when every boss is too busy trying to cover their own arse and keep their jobs to worry about heir staff. It was bad enoug for me when he retired. An end of an era really but to think that he is gone at 58 just plainly sucks big time. Once you were invited into his circle of friends he was a very funny guy with a lot of stories to tell. I am going to kiss ya Eric. RIP old mate.

Well apparently for SOME of us we have been on paperwork bans since Friday not that we knew about it at all. Seems we still can't find out if we still are or not. What a joke. We need to name a date and walk off just like the teachers are doing Thursday. The Govt take them seriously. They treat us with contempt. Paerwork bans mean nothing. They can get all the infomation they need from CAD now. I bet that when the State elections come up again we will still be asked to vote for Labor. That is where we get to tell the elected (by us) comittee/executive what we want the paid HSU to pursue instead sitting back and sniping at each other.
The teachers certainly know what solidarity is.
Even the Firies have the balls to strike, HSU can't physically strike for us we have to do that ourselves!
Management know that the few, at sub branch level DON'T have the support of the majority because their spys know who attend sub branch meetings.
Start at the basic level get off your arses, tell your colleages as well and turn up and steer the sub branchs in the direction we should be going. Once a month is small price to pay
The other alternative is get out of the HSU and save $21.00 a fortnight, although management would love that more because we would not have a voice at all.

A lot of things have happened since then. Those people who you think are your friends in this job are plotting behind your back to try and sink you if they get the chance. It gives them a better foot up the ladder. How do they justify an AO to Operations manager in one move? You can all put in for jobs as they come up and someone was complaining about the old brotherhood but it is much worse now. Ever wondered why a country AO will nearly always get the SO's job on that station when it comes up? If you even bother putting in for a country SO's job you are wasting ink. They save shitloads of transerred officers money that way so why would they bother to give it to an outsider UNLESS that outsider is someones mate. Level 3 CTO's teaching seasoned level 5's how to intubate if you don't mind!! Fuck it just goes on and on...Don't mind me it is just the alcohol talking.

The judge hearing our wage case was due to hand down his findings on Friday but broken his arm last night playing tennis. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. I sure hope the crew did a good job on him!!! He will now hand it down in July.
What a load of shit. As if he can't pass his ruling on to another judge and put us out of our misery! This shit, just gets worse! Time to walk out troops.

This is very confusing. Im from WA and the whole notion of a one person crew is ludicrous - how does it work? Dont you have an integrated system there for paid officers to work with a volunteer?
NSW is fortunate to have paid officers in most area's - in WA the country regions are reliant on volunteers. So just having a one member crew just sounds unworkable especially if your going to a resus.
Even working with a volunteer is better than working on your own.
Mind you even better if it was a fellow paid officer!
We only have volunteers in the isolated places with low workloads. The subject of one man crewing can be easily fixed. The officers concerned need to stick together on this and every time they are called onto a case just ask for assistance. It is not the co-ord mob that are against this it is just how it has always been. When i first mkoved to my station I worked one out. In the end that was what we did and eventually they found it better to put two to a car than pay a million call outs. Hey good to see Richard Watson popping in to say hello. To SAW Back. I have been getting a new ambulance every two years for the past 6 years now. Matter of fact they keep changing them just as I get used to the old one. Very annoying..getting a new one later this week matter of fact. Under 100,000 every time. Not sure why you are having to do 170,000ks in yours but maybe they just don't like you.
